About our team/Mō te tīmaEngineering Services at Otago University coordinates and delivers key Mechanical, Engineering, and HVAC solutions with a focus on quality and efficiency.Core services include new installations, alterations, repairs, and maintenance across various systems such as heating, ventilation, compressed air, hydraulics, and ductwork. We also specialise in pump and boiler repairs, heat exchanger maintenance, fan and motor servicing, as well as welding and fabrication in steel, stainless steel, and aluminium.Our commitment to excellence ensures a well-maintained built environment for the university.The role/Te mahiWe are seeking a qualified Engineer to join our dynamic team to provide professional advice to clients on all Mechanical, Engineering, and HVAC trade matters.Responsibilities include:

• Supervising trainees.
• Facilitating communication across trade groups.
• Ensuring all work meets the University’s quality standards and regulatory requirements.
• Managing documentation processes for As Built and Operation Manuals while maintaining current registrations and licenses.
• Maintaining a safe environment.
• Meeting workload timeframes.
• Resolving code compliance issues and keeping accurate records.
• Coordinating with Facility Managers, staff, and contractors.

Your skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheakoYou will have extensive practical experience in the Mechanical, Engineering, and HVAC industry, demonstrating strong client focus, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.Steam, Boiler, Sheetmetal Fabrication or HVAC Control experience is an advantage.A strategic approach to customer relationships is essential, ensuring high engagement with stakeholders, effective consultation, and seamless coordination of projects.You maintain open communication, resolve issues efficiently, and manage client expectations while overseeing procurement and vendor relations.Additional key skills include:

• Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Project Management, or a related field.
• Commercial acumen, with a focus on financial stewardship, cost reduction, and process improvement.
• Effective planning and organisation skills to enable task delegation and, scheduling.
• Analytical and problem-solving abilities to keep projects on track.
• Strong supportive leadership qualities that inspire confidence, and ethical decision-making.
• Proficiency in project management software and tools.
