Job description: PGG Wrightson is New Zealand’s largest provider of products and services to the agricultural and rural sector.To support our Retail business we have built a dynamic team of technical specialists and experts to support PGG Wrightson staff and farming clients. We are now seeking an experienced and qualified Vet with a passion for animal production and nutrition to join this team. There is flexibility as to where this role is based but it would suit someone living in the Upper North Island.This role will utilise your technical knowledge in veterinary science/animal production and nutrition to support and train our sales and store staff, advise key clients, maintain industry interaction and contribute to marketing and category strategies. This is an opportunity to combine a passion for knowledge transfer and rural extension with a practical focused outlook on farming. Within the role you will have the opportunity to work alongside your colleagues from different disciplines and understand the interactions of soil science, agronomy, nutrition and animal health in successful farms systems. We are looking for someone who has the right personality to fit in to our team and build on our collective strengths.The successful candidate will have an aptitude for adult education and training, This will be balanced with practical hands on experience in the New Zealand farming industry including in depth knowledge of large and small ruminant animal production in forage based farm systems. The role itself ranges in supporting; some strong Sheep and Beef areas and Dairy focused areas so it will be an advantage to have a good broad general knowledge.The successful candidate will:

be an industry expert in Animal Nutrition but has a strong understanding of the fundamentals of Animal Health
work independently and pro-actively to achieve the goals of the team
have a relevant Veterinary or Animal Science qualification and a minimum of 5 years practical experience
have the ability to successfully build strong working relationships and autonomously manage your own time
have a sound knowledge of New Zealand farm systems
have a high level of written and verbal communication skills with the ability to transfer knowledge and be able to present to large groups
have a sound level of commercial focus and acumen
have the ability to travel as required – the role is to support the Upper North Island but there will be some travel outside this area for training and supporting the rest of the team.
