Rate: Open to marketOn behalf of our Crown Corporation client based in British Columbia, Canada, Brainhunter Systems Ltd. is seeking a Technical Architect consultant for an upcoming 18-month contract position with a high likeliness of extension.The targeted start date for this position is October 2025. This is a remote-first opportunity with occasional on-site meetings/work in Victoria, BC.Scope:Our client is undertaking a Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery (BC/DR) program to enhance enterprise resilience across applications, infrastructure, data, and business processes. This initiative includes assessing current capabilities, identifying gaps, and developing a governed, sustainable BC/DR architecture. As part of this effort, they are also looking to advance related enterprise architecture capabilities, such as business architecture, capability
mapping, and roadmap development, where they directly support or enable continuity planning and organizational resilience.The Technical Architect will lead alignment of BC/DR strategy with enterprise goals, risk appetite, and governance frameworks. May also support adjacent enterprise architecture initiatives that inform resilience or continuity outcomes.Technical ArchitectStrategy & Planning
- Translate enterprise Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery (BC/DR) strategy into actionable technical architecture plans that support recovery objectives and system continuity.
- Assess infrastructure and application portfolios for recovery readiness and technology alignment.
- Define technical standards and controls to govern high availability, failover, and service continuity.
- Recommend technology enhancements or investments that enable automation of backup, restore, and continuity testing, as well as capabilities beneficial to other infrastructure or platform initiatives.
- Apply recognized frameworks and standards such as ISO 22301 and ISO 27031 to inform infrastructure design and recovery planning.
Design and Development
- Design and document infrastructure and application architectures that support tiered recovery objectives, including Recovery Time Objective (RTO) and Recovery Point Objective (RPO).
- Map and model critical technical dependencies and failure points across platforms, services, and integrated systems.
- Develop detailed designs and configurations for BC/DR solutions, including hybrid or cloud based recovery strategies.
- Build reference implementations and patterns for backup and recovery, clustering, data replication, and application level failover.
- Advise on the design and integration of monitoring, observability, and telemetry capabilities to support real-time resilience insights and post-incident analysis.
Delivery and Oversight
- Support execution of BC/DR implementation activities, including configuration, automation scripting, testing, and validation.
- Contribute to the integration of recovery capabilities into software development and IT operations and deployment pipelines.
- Assist in broader IT operational improvements where recovery, monitoring, or automation capabilities overlap with BC/DR objectives.
Documentation and Knowledge Transfer
- Deliver technical artifacts such as infrastructure blueprints, system dependency maps, network diagrams, runbooks, and recovery procedures. Document solution designs in line with BC Transit’s configuration management and IT operations standards.
Preferred Qualifications and Tools KnowledgeProponents are encouraged to have the following:
- Certification in cloud architecture (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP)
- Familiarity with enterprise backup and replication tools (e.g., Veeam, Commvault, Zerto)
- Awareness of ITIL practices and cybersecurity integration (e.g., CISSP or related credentials)
QualificationsTechnical and Strategic Capabilities
- Provide information detailing a minimum 7 years of experience in infrastructure or solution architecture, with at least 2 years focused on BC/DR or high-availability system design
- Demonstrate an ability to translate enterprise recovery strategies into actionable technical architecture plans
- Describe experience designing and implementing infrastructure to support tiered RTO/RPO objectives
- Describe experience with Infrastructure strategies, technology, and roadmaps
- Highlight ability to support IT modernization, infrastructure alignment, and automation efforts that contribute to system resilience
- Describe overall understanding of how technical architecture aligns with broader enterprise strategies and operational continuity
Tools and Technologies
- Discuss familiarity with major cloud and hybrid infrastructure platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, Google Cloud)
- Show an understanding of infrastructure architecture principles, including virtualization, networking, and storage in mixed environments
- Outline your knowledge of enterprise-scale backup, replication, and recovery technologies (e.g., Veeam, Commvault, Zerto)
- Showcase awareness of systems observability, performance monitoring, and telemetry as they relate to resilience and continuity
- Describe experience applying continuity and risk standards such as ISO 22301, ISO 27031, and ISO 27001
- Describe experience working with architectural tooling or infrastructure design documentation methods.
Certifications (preferred)
Proponents should describe or indicate any relevant certifications they possess.
- Azure/AWS/GCP Architect certification
- ITIL Foundation or Practitioner
- CISSP or equivalent certification, if applicable
Demonstrated Experience
Proponents should describe relevant past experience and provide examples of projects, roles, or deliverables that show their ability to meet the requirements.
- BC/DR and Resilience Architecture
- Highlight experience designing infrastructure and platforms to support recovery and continuity objectives
- Outline ability mapping technical dependencies, failure points, and recovery requirements across systems
- Outline ability Implementing BC/DR solutions in cloud, hybrid, or distributed environments
- Outline ability developing or contributing to backup, clustering, data replication, or failover patterns
Broader Technical Strategy
- Outline experience supporting related enterprise initiatives such as infrastructure renewal, platform rationalization, or resilience automation
- Outline experience integrating continuity capabilities into DevOps workflows, deployment pipelines, and IT operations
- Experience Applying industry standards (e.g., ISO 22301) to technical architecture decisions and implementation
