The Manager, Alumni and Community Engagement (Manager, ACE) provides strategic leadership and oversight for dedicated segments of alumni (e.g. faculty, hub or specific market segments or cohorts,) and leads alumni engagement staff. The Manager engages and builds deep relationships with a portfolio of key alumni, donors, volunteers as well as current and future prospects, with the primary purpose to establish and strengthen the culture of affinity and engagement among uOttawa alumni, donors and strategic partners.In this role, you will:
Strategic Planning and Relationship Management:
- Supports the Director, Alumni Relations in strategic alumni engagement and programs by drafting, and with the approval of the director, delivering on short and long-term action plans to identify, build and cultivate deep relationships with key alumni, donors, prospects and other partners in their specific segment (e.g. Faculty, hub or market).
- Develops and maintains relationships with faculties, leadership and advancement staff to effectively implement strategic alumni engagement programs and services by managing a portfolio of alumni, donors and/or stakeholders for strategic engagement and relationship growth, while overseeing the portfolios of direct reports.
- Responsible for meeting all University Advancement portfolio management protocols, including completing assigned qualifications to meet agreed-upon engagement targets annually.
Design, Implementation and Management of Alumni and Community Engagement Programming:
- In consultation with and approval from the director, drafts and develops alumni engagement programming to support the priorities of the segment in order to grow a strong culture of affinity and engagement among alumni, donors, and partners. Drafts and executes project plans to support programming strategies.
- Evaluates ongoing success using established performance metrics (e.g. benchmarking) to track and report progress on a regular basis. Researches emerging trends, reviews best practices and provides recommendations to leadership for program improvement.
Leadership and Professional Development:
- Provides guidance and support to direct reports and oversees their work by facilitating and tracking project status, identifying problems and issues, allocating appropriate resources, and ensuring that projects and events are completed on schedule and at the highest levels of quality.
- Evaluates direct reports’ performance and identifies development needs and recommends appropriate training strategies.
Reporting and Budget:
- Prepares and submits regular updates/reports to Director, Alumni Relations and faculty, outlining engagement and pipeline activity in line with the segment’s priorities. Communicates budgetary needs to the director to support engagement programming within their segment or sector and respects the established budget. Ensures that all activities are reflected in the University’s CRM database.
What you will bring:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 5 years’ experience in public and/or alumni relations, or advancement
- Knowledge of the University of Ottawa’s mandate, mission, objectives and culture
- Strong working knowledge of advancement processes, best practices and current industry trends
- Proven ability to manage ongoing relationships with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders, including senior executives and officials and influential individuals
- Self-starter, goal oriented, and strategic thinker
- Team player, excels at working collaboratively as well as independently
- Strong networking skills. Ability to use persuasion, negotiation and influencing skills to develop relationships with stakeholders
- Strong project management and organizational skills, and ability to prioritize multiple tasks
- Team management experience
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including public speaking, and solid relationship management skills at all levels in an organization
- Demonstrated ability to write and produce high A
- Strong computer skills including above average competency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Proficiency in Raiser’s Edge is an asset.
- Superior communication skills in French and English (verbal and written)
