- Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to drive effective implementation of strategic risk management, compliance and business continuity activities.
- Research and analyse environmental, social, economic and cultural trends and drivers of change and potential impacts on WRC strategy and risk.
- Work as a partner to the business, performing risk assessments, agreeing mitigation plans and monitoring progress.
- Educate and empower the business on risk issues and build confidence in making risk-smart decisions.
- Proactively develop relationships with risk owners to continue to embed and promote the consideration of risk issues across the council.
- Oversee the council’s internal audit programme, including oversight of recommendations and associated action plans.
- Manage the review of WRC business continuity plan, including coordinating the planning and execution of regular exercises.

- Demonstrates knowledge of strategic risk management, with experience in similar risk roles in complex organisations.
- Excellent communication skills – written and verbal.
- Strategic and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Be highly motivated, innovative, curious and open to new ways of doing things.
Mō ngā pūkenga | Qualifications and experience
- Proven experience in strategic risk management
- Relevant tertiary qualification in business, law or related field

- Reports to the Manager Business Advisory Services.
- The role is within the Finance and business services directorate, which supports the Waikato Regional Council mission through the provision of a broad range of professional services.
