Job description: Job Description:Mō te tūranga | About the role

  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to drive effective implementation of strategic risk management, compliance and business continuity activities.
  • Research and analyse environmental, social, economic and cultural trends and drivers of change and potential impacts on WRC strategy and risk.
  • Work as a partner to the business, performing risk assessments, agreeing mitigation plans and monitoring progress.
  • Educate and empower the business on risk issues and build confidence in making risk-smart decisions.
  • Proactively develop relationships with risk owners to continue to embed and promote the consideration of risk issues across the council.
  • Oversee the council’s internal audit programme, including oversight of recommendations and associated action plans.
  • Manage the review of WRC business continuity plan, including coordinating the planning and execution of regular exercises.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of strategic risk management, with experience in similar risk roles in complex organisations.
  • Excellent communication skills – written and verbal.
  • Strategic and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Be highly motivated, innovative, curious and open to new ways of doing things.

Mō ngā pūkenga | Qualifications and experience

  • Proven experience in strategic risk management
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in business, law or related field

  • Reports to the Manager Business Advisory Services.
  • The role is within the Finance and business services directorate, which supports the Waikato Regional Council mission through the provision of a broad range of professional services.
