We are looking for passionate individuals who share our vision and values to join our team.This position sits within the Infrastructure and Assets Group who, from planning to maintenance, are dedicated to delivering resilient infrastructure and services that enrich lives today and ensure a thriving future for our community.Job DescriptionHe angituutanga: The opportunityJoin a talented team of infrastructure subject matter experts and contribute to further progressing Hamilton’s journey to become a more resilient and prosperous city.Reporting to the People Manager – Strategy and Planning Specialists, and with workflow direction from Technical Director Strategic Waters, you will be responsible for the strategic planning needed to inform the operation, upgrade and expansion of the Pukete Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP).In this role you will lead the development, delivery and maintenance of the Master Plan for the Pukete WWTP, driving Hamilton City forward as a national and world leader in urban water management. A framework for this has been developed which provides a roadmap to deliver the master plan; this role is responsible for driving the project, facilitating and coordinating inputs from key internal staff, managing external consultants, and overall project delivery.

  • Lead and manage the development and delivery of a Master Plan for the Pukete WWTP.
  • Build and maintain effective cross-organisational relationships across multiple interdisciplinary areas.
  • Collaborate with operational, asset management and strategic planning teams as part of the strategic planning for Pukete WWTP.
  • Identify and recommend prioritised investment programmes to implement the Master Plan.
  • Active involvement in developing the capital and operational programme for the Pukete WWTP
  • Ensure appropriate level of investigations and clear scopes of works are produced and used to handover projects to the appropriate teams for construction and/or operations.
  • Lead and support the delivery of allocated strategic projects associated with Pukete WWTP.
  • Support WWTP consenting or consent review processes.
  • Lead the delivery of allocated strategic actions required under treatment plant resource consents supporting technical submissions on legislative or regulatory documents.
  • Develop strong relationships with Waikato Regional Council, stakeholders and customers.
  • Work with iwi and Māori to give effect to and realise the promise of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in engineering or earth sciences.
  • 10+ years’ experience in wastewater infrastructure planning, specialising is wastewater treatment.
  • Technical expertise in wastewater treatment process.
  • Advanced knowledge of strategic planning and asset management practices.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders (internal and external).
  • Highly analytical, with the ability to write and review complex documents.
  • Ability to plan, co-ordinate, develop and manage programme and project scopes, budgets, scheduling, resources and risks to ensure efficient, timely and fit for purpose project delivery.
  • The ability to recognise and implement te Tiriti o Waitangi in your mahi at HCC.
