The DAFF HR branches are undergoing a transformation activity and will be implementing a new strategic business partner operating model in 2025. This is an opportunity for permanent reassignment at level for experienced HR practitioner to join the HR branches in the role of a Strategic HR Business Partner.The role
As a Strategic HR Business Partner leading a small team, you will provide expert guidance to implement workforce solutions that align with the department’s goals. Your focus will be on building business solutions, embedding workforce planning, building capability, and using workforce analysis to assist with decision-making while offering high-quality support and advice to managers. By collaborating closely with the senior leadership group, you’ll drive strategies that enhance attraction, engagement, retention, succession planning, and well-being, ensuring our workforce is prepared to meet future needs. As the Strategic HR Business Partner is a new and pivotal role within the department, there is a unique opportunity to build strong, trusting relationships across the business. This role will be instrumental in showcasing the value and impact of the HR team, driving positive change, and fostering a collaborative culture.Our ideal candidate
- Strategic advisors: Demonstrated experience in providing high level strategic direction and guidance on a broad range of people issues relevant to a large, functionally diverse and geographically dispersed workforce.
- Experienced workforce practitioners: A breadth and depth of experience in HR and/or WHS, including the latest thinking in the fields as well as understanding the broader APS agenda.
- Exceptional leadership skills: Demonstrated ability to manage complexity, transformation and change in a people context to add value at an enterprise level.
- Exceptional management skills: Demonstrated experience creating a psychologically safe environment, where team members are supported to produce high-quality work. Demonstrated ability to anticipate and respond to the needs of the senior executives you report to.
- Builds and maintains reputation as trusted partner: Establish relationships with Executive and Senior Managers to provide professional advice, coaching and support in the implementation of human resource strategies and the resolution of complex human resources issues.
- Demonstrated experience delivering strategic or operational people and/or wellbeing projects that have contributed to improving culture and workforce outcomes.
Skills and capabilities
- Trusted partner: Builds and fosters relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders to provide support and advice based on areas of knowledge and expertise.
- HR business strategist: Aligns people initiatives and workplace culture strategies to business areas delivering on these strategies and objectives.
- Critical thinking: Uses critical thinking and specialist knowledge to optimise the delivery of HR practices and services within the scope of the role.
- Culture and change: Lead, design and implement innovative HR solutions and accountability frameworks that enhance organisational culture and address workforce risks that is aligned with agency strategies and objectives.
- Strategic/operational HR solutions: drives the implementation and management of workforce strategies and initiatives that support the department to attract, develop and maintain a capable and diverse workforce and enhance its positive workplace culture.
- Ethical practice: Demonstrates professional ethical standards and personal integrity in dealing with sensitive personnel data and information.
