Job description: We’re looking for a passionate Stakeholder Engagement Manager, ED to join the Corporate Affairs team who are responsible for protecting, preserving, and enhancing the reputation of the National Grid. Whilst a group function, Electricity Distribution Corporate Affairs (EDCA) act as a dedicated support service to the Electricity Distribution Business (NGED), serving 20m customers across the Midlands, Southwest and Wales.The Stakeholder Engagement team is accountable for all of the company’s engagement activities, ensuring stakeholders, customer groups, and other interested parties are informed and engaged in National Grid’s business activities. The team are accountable for ensuring a robust engagement strategy that satisfies the regulator’s requirements for ongoing stakeholder engagement and will take the lead on the design and delivery of the company’s ED3 customer and stakeholder engagement programme – the largest ever engagement exercise the company will have ever undertaken that will be critical to securing a multi £bn investment plan for the future.This role can be based out of our Castle Donnington, Bristol, Warwick or Strand offices and we’d hope to see you at least two days per week but you’re welcome to be in the office more often if that would work best for you. We’re happy to discuss any additional flexibility in working patterns or requirements that you feel could help to make this job work for you!What You’ll Do

  • Provide strategic guidance as a business partner to key departments within NGED, such as Customer Excellence, DSO, and Regulation, advising on effective stakeholder engagement approaches to achieve business objectives.
  • Take a leading role in reporting stakeholder engagement activities to Ofgem and other relevant bodies, positioning NGED as a leader in stakeholder engagement and maximizing incentives for engagement.
  • Design and execute an industry-leading stakeholder engagement campaign for the company’s price reviews, ensuring that customer and stakeholder insights are gathered and utilized to support a robust business plan that secures regulatory support.
  • Define the strategic direction of NGED’s stakeholder engagement efforts and drive its evolution to become a thought leader in the field, staying ahead of industry trends and best practices.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive stakeholder engagement strategies that provide valuable insights and support NGED in building a long-term perspective on when and how to engage and invest in stakeholder relationships.
  • Collaborate closely with teams across the ED business to ensure alignment in stakeholder messaging and create a clear and consistent narrative for NGED, enhancing the overall stakeholder experience.
  • Monitor and evaluate stakeholder satisfaction and engagement levels, aiming to develop industry-leading standards in stakeholder engagement and continuously improve NGED’s approach.

What You’ll Have

  • Strong understanding of regional stakeholder networks within the NGED operational area.
  • Demonstrable experience delivering high quality and effective stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Understanding of regulated industry or infrastructure, as well as the important relationship between industry, regulators, government, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to build strong and effective networks, influencing and negotiation at the highest level internally and externally.
  • Experience designing and delivering stakeholder campaigns and public consultations, gathering insights and using them to shape company strategy.
  • Experience in using different communications channels and tactics to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Strong track record of successfully communicating complex policy solutions in a clear and concise manner to multiple audiences.
  • Experience of working with and influencing key internal stakeholders in a large, complex organisations, working in a collaborative manner to reach shared objectives.
  • Able to prioritise and manage competing issues, working with and through others – maintaining high and consistent standards and alignment, working at pace and with minimal guidance.
  • Ability to communicate to a high level, highly articulate and a determined and proactive leader and influencer. High quality, clear and concise written communications.
