Why not see where we can go?Job DescriptionOverview of the role:To manage balance sheet risks and maximise the value of our investment assets, TAL is expanding its investment capabilities including the implementation of a new Target Operating Model. This is an exciting role, offering the ability to build capability, shape outcomes and add significant value. The role will work closely with the Head of Investments (general account) & ALM and be responsible for investment strategy and portfolio management. The focus will be rates and credit investments and will require a strong understanding of asset-liability management and life insurance regulatory capital standards.Key Accountabilities:Investment strategy

• Clarifying investment objectives and quantifying risk appetite including via senior executive and/or Board workshops
• Designing capital efficient, liability-driven, investment strategies that achieve investment objectives
• Providing advice to Risk on appropriate targets and limits
• Portfolio structure design including the optimal mix / diversification of strategies / exposures
• Provide advice to the business on investment elements of product design (including Retirement Income)
• Analysis of competitors’ investment strategies and performance

Portfolio management

• Investment risk management, ensuring ongoing compliance with limits
• Investment manager benchmark design
• Investment market and economic research
• Dynamic exposure management including active credit and duration positioning
• Derivative overlay implementation when applicable (including CDS and bond futures)

Collaboration and stakeholder engagement

• Draft Board and ALCo papers
• Present to various internal forums and executive committees
• Interact with senior executives including the CFO, Appointed Actuary, Chief Risk Officer, etc.
• Ongoing collaboration with external investment managers and where necessary provide robust feedback and challenge
• Provide advice and mentorship to the broader ALM team

Qualifications– Minimum of 15 years of experience in the Finance/Investments/Insurance industries including

• 5+ years in roles relating to asset-liability management

• 5+ years in roles relating to investment strategy design
• 3+ years in roles relating to rates and credit mandate design and implementation

– Excellent knowledge of life insurance regulatory capital standards– Very strong financial modelling experience– Strong ability to communicate and articulate complex concepts– Strong initiative, in particular with regards to developing new processes and investigating and resolving complex issues– Tertiary qualification in Actuarial studies, Mathematics, Finance or related discipline– Chartered Financial Analyst qualification strongly preferredAdditional InformationAt TAL we value diversity in all its forms and are committed to fostering an inclusive and equitable culture for all our people.
