This role offers the opportunity to work across diverse sectors, including aerospace and defence, automotive, energy, utilities, financial services, government, manufacturing, maritime, and rail. The SQL Database Administrator (DBA) will play a key role in maintaining, optimising, and securing critical SQL Server systems, ensuring high availability and performance across Ricardo’s database environments.Key Responsibilities

  • Implement, configure, and maintain SQL databases to ensure performance, availability, and security.
  • Monitor and optimise database performance, including queries, indexes, and storage configurations.
  • Develop and manage backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity.
  • Ensure database security protocols are followed, managing user access, authentication, and authorisation.
  • Automate routine maintenance tasks and proactively address system alerts.
  • Troubleshoot database issues and provide timely solutions to performance bottlenecks.
  • Conduct regular data integrity audits and quality checks.
  • Collaborate with developers, consultants, and IT teams to support data-driven initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and data protection best practices.

Key Competencies and Experience

  • Experience as a SQL Database Administrator.
  • Strong expertise in SQL Server (2019+), including design, deployment, and management.
  • Experience with SQL clustering, replication management, and database performance tuning.
  • Proficiency in Transact-SQL, stored procedures, and ETL technologies.
  • Commercial experience with Data Warehousing, SSRS, SSAS, and SSIS package development.
  • Strong understanding of server architecture and database security protocols.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve database issues effectively.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Experience with database performance monitoring tools (e.g., SQL Profiler).

Desirable Competencies and Experience

  • Experience with cloud-based databases (Azure SQL).
  • Knowledge of C#, .NET, and Microsoft Dynamics.
  • Exposure to Agresso Financial Software and MySQL.
  • Understanding of MS Windows Clustering, NLB, and iSCSI storage.
  • Experience in mentoring or leadership roles.
  • Background in backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field (preferred).
