Job description: Project Description:The current licencing procedure is tedious and is complex which creates barriers for those planning to establish launch and spaceflight services. UKLSL has been working on developing a tool based on a model built using MBSE to simplify the application process for a licence. The Space Industry Regulations have been analysed and requirements have been drawn out to help keep track of compliance. The tool has been baselined at version 1.0 but there is room for further development into a smart software solution which will simplify the management of the regulations and therefore the successful candidate will:a) Develop their understanding of the UK Space Industry Regulations.b) Keep the requirements/ regulations up to date which will lead to updates to the MBSE model.c) Develop a software application based on the MBSE model.Successful candidates will be involved in the following activities:Regulatory Database: Implement a comprehensive database that catalogues UK space industry regulations, ensuring that users have access to up-to-date and relevant compliance information.Alert System: Develop a robust alert system that notifies users of impending regulatory changes, submission deadlines, and other critical updates, reducing the risk of non-compliance.Documentation Management: Enable seamless organization and retrieval of required documentation for compliance purposes. This includes document version control and secure storage.User Access Control: Implement a secure user access control system, allowing different roles within organizations to access only the information relevant to their responsibilities.Reporting and Analytics: Provide tools for generating insightful reports and analytics to help organizations assess their compliance status, identify trends, and make informed decisions.GUI: Develop a simple user interface (front end of the application)The successful applicant should have the following qualities and abilities:Academic:Studying for a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred. Alternatively, relevant work experience or additional certifications may be considered.Minimum Requirements1. Programming Skills: Proficiency in at least one programming language commonly used for web development, such as Python, Java, or C#. Experience with relevant frameworks and libraries is a plus.2. Web Development: Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript3. Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to analyze problems, propose effective solutions, and troubleshoot issues independently or collaboratively.4. Communication Skills: Strong communication skills to interact with stakeholders, understand their requirements, and convey technical concepts clearly.Desirable Requirements:Regulatory Understanding: Basic knowledge or a keen interest in space industry regulations can be advantageous for developing a software solution tailored to the specific needs of the domain.Process details:8 weeks minimum fixed term contract to be agreed with successful candidate5 days holiday to be taken during the placementWorking at UKLSL:UKLSL was founded in 2017 to provide expert support to organisations developing space launch services. We are a launch operations service provider offering management, regulatory support, logistics support, range services and operations planning services for commercial small satellite launch. Together with our delivery partners we have extensive knowledge of small satellites and their launch requirements and aim to support commercial competitive launch operations from the UK. UKLSL also has significant technical knowledge of launch vehicles, their technology and comprehensive knowledge of all potential UK launch sites (as well as the global market and competition). We are developing a wide ranging understanding of the technical and commercial challenges for the UK’s first satellite launch site through work with a range of launch vehicle, launch site and mission analysis partners.
Expected salary: £3663 per month
