(Fall Semester: September 3, 2025 – December 2, 2025, Tuesdays 6:30-9:30pm & Fridays 11:50-2:50pm; In-Person)COURSE DESCRIPTION: This studio course surveys advertising industry conventions and communication theory studying the relationship between marketplaces and consumer audiences in cultural contexts. Ethical considerations of consumer-targeted communication in self-reflexive projects are demonstrated through a variety of media. A diversity of design methodologies are implemented to critically examine causes and effects of consumer behaviour that challenge systemic bias of economic, racial, and cultural barriers. A decolonial approach to design is examined through respectful design practices, and by exploring examples of Indigenous methodologies and contemporary land-based perspectivesADVR-3008: RETAIL & EMERGING TECHNOLOGY (0.5 credits)
(Winter Semester: January 8, 2026 – April 8, 2026, Mondays 8:30-11:30am; In-Person)COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course explores how the adoption of digital and mobile technologies for mixed reality experiences can drive brand awareness and sales with respect to retail. Students apply time-based media and mixed reality approaches to create viable user-friendly, on-brand products or concepts from ideation to final outcome. Central to the course is the importance of using 3D technology as a compelling and user-friendly solutionADVR-3013: MEDIATED LANDSCAPES (0.5 credits)
(Winter Semester: January 8, 2026 – April 8, 2026, Mondays 6:30-9:30pm; In-Person)COURSE DESCRIPTION: Advertising is increasingly pervasive through the limitless channels of media vying for consumer engagement. Mediated Landscapes examines the effects of diverse mediums of communications through a critical, exploratory process of research and creation. The socio-economic dynamics between brands and consumers in physical and digital space are analyzed and investigated using art and design methods such as, prototyping and experimentation. Issues of power, identity, and value in various forms of media are identified in perceived and real landscapes; requiring a decolonial framework of global, diasporic, and Indigenous knowledges to cross-examine the studio process through readings, workshops, and visiting knowledge keepers.ADVR-4014: ADVERTISING WORKSHOP 2 (1.0 credits)
(Winter Semester: January 8, 2026 – April 8, 2026, Tuesdays and Thursdays 11:50-2:50pm; In-Person)COURSE DESCRIPTION: Building on Workshop 1, students continue to advance and extend their application of knowledge and competency of the Advertising discipline in actual, client – facing major capstone design project work. Greater emphasis is placed on working collaboratively in professional contexts at industry levels. Students will synthesize knowledge and methodologies from previous courses to evaluate and create innovative, insightful Advertising solutions. Students will problem solve to real-world business issues as well as incorporate digital and mass platforms utilizing current technologies, typographic and software skills. Application of knowledge at both a scholarly and industry level will be done in an audience – facing presentation.RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaching and teaching-related responsibilities may include but are not limited to: scholarly or research knowledge, course outline development, studio preparation and delivery inclusive of lectures, critiques, grading, mid-term evaluations and final evaluations/reviews, participation in Faculty and program meetings; including responsibility for health & safety and meeting academic and curricular requirements and deadlines.QUALIFICATIONS:

Sessional compensation includes a per-course pay scale with salary level of $7,508.00 (per 0.5 credit course) plus 7% in lieu of benefits and vacation pay, per the provisions of the Employment Standards Act.
