Job description: Job Description:OverviewThis role is responsible for maintaining tax process and governance frameworks to provide assurance to management of compliance with tax regulations and the Tax Risk Governance Policy. The role is required to prepare of tax compliance and tax reporting of the corporate taxation, indirect taxes and assist the wider global tax management of MUFG Corporate Markets for Asia Pacific.Key Accountabilities and main responsibilitiesStrategic Focus

  • Responsible for preparing tax filings in Asia Pacific (Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and other countries as required), including full analysis to highlight positions taken (including any third party advice obtained and the alternatives considered)
  • Support tax management on various initiatives including tax reviews, tax modelling or forecasting and correspondence/dealings with tax authorities
  • Comprehensive understanding of regulations to ensure compliance and proactively perform additional ad-doc tasks as requested across all taxes, as necessary

Operational Management

  • Preparation of corporate income tax, indirect tax filings (GST) and employer tax filings in Asia Pacific
  • Preparation of tax reporting for monthly management reporting and ASX reporting every six months for Asia Pacific
  • Prepare all income tax related ancillary filings – e.g. Country-by-Country Reporting notifications, franking account return in Australia
  • Calculation of corporate tax instalments for all jurisdictions
  • Ensuring balance sheet reconciliations are prepared for current and deferred taxes quarterly
  • Detailed review of distributable income calculations for managed investment funds, and liaising with external tax parties
  • Review of BAS’ for managed investments funds
  • Ensuring timely delivery of various reporting requirements including ICR calculation and reporting to clients
  • Perform accurate and timely ITR recut calculation
  • Ensure effective KPI reporting on daily deliveries, with focus on ownership and escalating matters where required

People Leadership

  • Foster a culture of evolving daily operational processes, recommending and implementing changes that drive continuous improvement, making processes simpler and more efficient for all
  • Identify process change to improve tax reporting and governance, with the assistance of tax management
  • Develop, implement and maintain effective and transparent communication strategies to ensure your team members are kept up to date with any organisational or legislative change
  • Training and knowledge sharing with all the finance team on taxation requirements, with the assistance of tax management
  • Assist with documentation or procedures and processes to meet tax authority requirements
  • Develop and train the tax compliance team and Finance team on taxation processes
  • Collaborate closely with the team and the broader organization to achieve shared goals, treating all colleagues and clients as valued partners

Governance & Risk

  • Help maintain the low-risk strategy in compliance with Tax Risk Governance Policy and other related policies
  • Ensure corporate tax processes are suitably documented and understood, with the assistance of tax management
  • IAS preparation and submission
  • Regular reviews of Tax Reporting processes and procedures with a view to implementing efficiency and accuracy improvements
  • Adopt a risk management culture, and effectively limit risk exposure to MUFG Corporate Markets with strategies to mitigate risk

  • 3+ years’ experience in an accounting practice or managing taxation having responsibility of taxation filings and process
  • Degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • Demonstrated experience in tax accounting reporting and good understanding of current accounting standards
  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving abilities that lead to effective decision making and practical solutions
  • Ongoing monitoring and improvement of risk and compliance controls
  • Excellent written & verbal communication to engage with people at all levels of the organisation and build strong relationships and trust with clients and internal stakeholders
  • Experience in distribution for managed funds in Australia
  • Flexible and responsive, able to work to tight deadlines
  • Attention to detail – ensure accuracy and efficiency of daily tasks and high personal standards in all work areas
  • Team orientation – works with the team and the broader organization towards shared goals and treats all colleagues and clients as partners
  • Excellent numeracy skills and strong written and verbal skills
  • Above average PC skills using Word and other Accounting or Tax software products
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite, in particular advanced level in MS Excel
