Join us as we embark on a multi-year program to improve operational reliability and build operational excellence in the services we deliver.About Your OpportunityAs the Senior Strategic Planner, you will play a key role in ensuring that Seqwater’s interests are effectively represented in State and Local Government town planning activities, protecting the long-term sustainability of safe and reliable water supply.With a deep understanding of planning and environmental legislation, you will ensure that Seqwater’s current and future interests are integrated appropriately in all relevant legislative documents under Queensland’s Planning Framework.You will undertake strategic planning projects, applying best practice principles and evidence-based research. By engaging with key internal stakeholders to understand both current and future capacity, you will collaborate with local and state agencies to ensure that Seqwater’s objectives are successfully achieved.Key responsibilities:

  • Represent the needs and interests of Seqwater in important State and Local Government town planning activities, ensuring that reliable and sustainable water supply is prioritised.
  • Contribute to the review of State and local legislative planning instruments and policies including State Interest Reviews of local government planning schemes
  • Collaborate with internal teams to fully understand asset management plans, future projects, and asset capabilities, then identify any potential conflicts or issues when reviewing State and Local government development schemes and planning schemes.
  • Analyse the effectiveness of internal policies and procedures relating to land use planning and related fields, providing recommendation for improvements.
  • Liaise with external parties, including regulators and government agencies to clarify or define planning obligations.

Hours and LocationsThis role offers flexible hybrid working, with various offices across South East Queensland for you to work from.About youTo be successful in this role, you will possess:

  • Tertiary qualifications in town planning or urban and regional planning.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of local government planning schemes and an understanding of how they are administered, the variable format and structure, and application within South East Queensland.
  • Expertise in working with government statutory instruments, by undertaking state interest reviews on new or amended Planning Schemes, State Development Area / Priority Development Area development schemes or Regional Plans.
  • Ability to understand and represent the needs and future capabilities of large infrastructure assets to drive and negotiate favourable planning outcomes with external stakeholders, particularly large organisations and/or government departments.
  • Demonstrated senior level experience in land use planning, analysis, investigation and strategy development relevant to strategic planning.
  • Expert level verbal communication and interpersonal skills to effectively liaise, influence and negotiate.
