The Directorate is also responsible for regeneration (where the programme is not housing led), enterprise, growth, capital projects and design work.Culture, Creative Industries and 24 Hour LondonCulture is the lifeblood of our city. It is the force that gives London its sense of identity, binds communities together, attracts visitors, drives the economy and encourages investment. The Culture, Creative Industries and 24-Hour London Unit exists to make London an exciting, world-leading city of inspiration and opportunities for everyone.Four of five tourists visit London for its culture. Tourism accounts for one in seven jobs in London and contributes almost 12% of the city’s GDP. London is roaring back from the impact of the pandemic. The latest figures show: London’s attractions enjoyed a 141 per cent growth in visitors last year, more than 2m more international arrivals are expected to come to London this year compared to last year, bringing an additional £674m to the capital. Cultural tourism generating £3.2 billion for our economy and supporting 80,000 jobs in the capital (GLA Intelligence)About the roleThe Senior Officer, Cultural Tourism Partnerships leads on the development and delivery of strategic opportunities for maximising the advocacy and communication of the Unit’s programmes such as East Bank and the London Borough of Culture through liaison and partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders on behalf of the GLA. This will involve connecting with cultural and nighttime organisations, the Mayor’s Cultural Leadership Board, businesses, local authorities, and trade bodies (e.g. UK Hospitality, 24 Hour London, London & Partners, Transport for London, and the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions), building on existing relationships.As part of the Strategy & Programmes team within the Culture, Creative Industries and 24-Hour London Unit, this role has a responsibility for the team as well as personally leading and bringing cultural tourism experience and engagement with stakeholders to high profile cultural programmes and campaigns.What your day will look like

  • Provide strategic leadership and influence on a range of initiatives, programmes and policies related to the opportunities relating to cultural tourism for the Unit such as the pedestrianisation of Oxford Street.
  • Contribute to the Strategy & Programmes team’s portfolio of programmes which include: London Borough of Culture, Culture, Health & Wellbeing Programme, Creative Economy Growth Portfolio.
  • Support the comms for the Unit’s flagship cultural infrastructure programmes such as: East Bank, London Museum and others as they emerge.
  • Influence and develop new strategic partnerships such as London Creates campaigns through hosting roundtables, generating new ideas.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to join the dots and influence other directorates such as: Economic Development, London & Partners, Transport for London, London’s creative industries, businesses, higher education, and government departments.
  • Provide and contribute to written and oral briefings and specialist reports related to culture and the creative industries and key issues as required.

Skills, knowledge and experienceTo be considered for the role you must meet the following essential criteria:

  • Good knowledge of culture and the creative industries or tourism sector and knowledge of the key challenges London faces, including the Central Activities Zone.
  • Successful track record of campaign and policy development, communication strategies, briefing and consultation response preparation in a fast-paced political environment.
  • Extensive project management experience and a track record of successfully delivering results on target and within budget, reporting to key stakeholders, managing risk and evaluation.
  • Experience of procurement, commissioning and gathering intelligence (information, opinion, and data), analysing results, and developing policy recommendations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of political sensitivities; Experience working in a complex and dynamic environment.
