POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT (defines the major functions/purpose of the position) This position is based in Malaysia GBS and reports directly to Regional Controller APAC & China and is responsible for (1) US GAAP compliance program in the APAC region. This will include monitoring compliance with US GAAP at the region and country level, providing training on US GAAP and IFRS to region and country, leading IFRS implementations at the country level and providing accounting analysis and recommendations for one-off transactions in the region. (2) Financial reporting compliance for the APAC region, including but not limited to leading the APAC regional accounting team in reviewing financials closings on monthly basis, streamlining the financial closing/reporting process, co-ordinates with Country Finance on ensure all statutory audits are completed on time. (3) Coordinating with relevant stakeholders to manage projects to achieve the desired processes, quality and outcomes for Controllership from financial operational perspective.(4) Provide oversight and act directly with GBS leadership on behalf of Regional Controllership; (5) to support Regional Controller APAC & China for any ad hoc subjects where requested. Job prerequisites – CPA or equivalent with a minimum of six (6)+ years of Big-Four firm audit experience including managing audits of US GAAP reporting entities. Overall the candidate should have a minimum of eight (8)+ years of accounting experience with US GAAP reporting entities; SEC reporting and ASC 606 / 842 experience strongly preferred. The candidate should be able to research accounting issues and present solutions. In addition the candidate should have a good working knowledge of IFRS and should be able to speak and write fluently in English. The candidate should be experienced in financial closings. Understand the operational and system constraints and able to guide the team for quality and timely preparation/review of financial statements. DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES: Accounting and Reporting Supports the APAC team in preparing the monthly financial statements on timely and accurate manners, including streamlining the closing process where appropriate; Reviews new/significant transactions reported by Country Finance to ensure they are properly and timely accounted for; Identifies accounting issues or potential issues in the region and provide accounting guidance; Leads the standardization of accounting procedures/practices across the region/Company; Leads the team in formulating and standardizing the financial reporting packages at Country/Regional level; Leads Country Finance in the discussion of audit/accounting findings with external auditors where Country Finance requires support, or if we have different opinions with auditors, escalate accordingly and align with Regional Controller/Corporate before a conclusion is drawn; Ensures US GAAP compliance in APAC including but not limited to ensure proper implementation of Statutory/US GAAP account reconciliations; Participates in drafting and implementing Corporate accounting policies, including but not limited to proper communication to Countries/incorporation of APAC specifics prior to finalization; Supports Corporate financial reporting team in areas such as research on accounting rules, commenting on accounting white papers, etc. Ensures proper Corporate reporting requirements are met per the Company’s policies such as Significant Transactions policy; Reviews country statutory accounts and audit findings for any unusual items that may indicate potential regulatory risks and significant misstatements in US GAAP reporting; Financial Analysis Prepares quarterly sales analysis to support MD&A in 10Q/10K filings; Reviews all earning releases/SEC filings related to APAC to ensure accuracy; Leads APAC regional team in monitoring marketing plan, payout % and evaluate its impact over financials; Team Training Provides trainings to APAC Controllership in the application of US GAAP and Corporate accounting policies; Identifies areas where additional training/resources are required, formulates and implements effective training programs; Trains the trainer for US GAAP compliance reviews; Completes the Corporate US GAAP compliance program for each country in the region on regular basis; Interaction with GBS, Projects and Others Provide the oversight on the GBS Finance operations on behalf of APAC regional controllership; Provide feedback, advices, best practices and trainings to both GBS and local Controllership teams in order to continuously improve the quality and efficiency in Company’s Finance operation; Be the vocal point for the Projects that impact APAC’s finance operations, processes and internal controls etc; Provide timely feedback to relevant stakeholder in order to manage the quality and outcomes of these projects from Finance operation perspective; Ad hoc projects as assigned by Regional Controller APAC & China ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: Direct reports to the Regional Controller APAC & China and dotted line reporting to Sr. Director, Corporate Financial Reporting Regional team members will be also engaged in supporting Regional Controllers in the co-ordination and implementation of ad hoc projects and/or Country Operations Qualifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Skills Required Sufficient US GAAP knowledge to prepare and file US SEC Form 10-K or equivalent Strong working knowledge of IFRS Preferred Inventory and cost accounting experience Experience: Required Minimum of six (6) years of Big Four firm audit experience Minimum of eight (8) years of overall accounting experience Preferred Consumer markets audit or accounting experience with thorough understanding of operational accounting Education: Required Bachelors or equivalent in accounting. CPA or CA certificate or equivalent.
