Kindly note that, as a teaching-based programme, we do not have research funding to offer at the moment. However, staff are encouraged to engage in research in their own free time. There is no compromise on teaching quality, and staff are expected to maintain high standards in their teaching and student engagement.The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in contextualising University of Stirling modules for delivery in China, selecting and developing appropriate learning materials and activities that reflect the contemporary data science environment in China and incorporating these into the programme, and in some instances developing material for completely new modules.The BSc (Hons) Data Science award covers a range of areas including:

• Databases and data warehousing
• Scripting and programming
• Code performance analysis
• User interface design
• Statistics
• Machine learning, natural language processing and computer vision
• Information management
• Computer security
• Computer networks
• Research methods in computing science
• Artificial Intelligence

Key Responsibilities:

• Teach up to twenty class periods per week (Monday to Friday) and be available in the staff office for at least six class periods per week for student consultation.
• Prepare and deliver engaging, student-centred classes, including compiling relevant teaching materials.
• Develop, invigilate, mark, and second-mark assessments within agreed deadlines.
• Supervise final-year projects and act as an academic advisor for assigned students.
• Participate in staff development, including completing a staff development plan, attending training, and engaging in peer observations.
• Take part in staff appraisals and contribute to programme marketing if requested.
• Attend team meetings and fulfil administrative responsibilities as outlined in the staff handbook.
• Ensure all duties are performed to the highest standard and within agreed timeline.

• Please note candidates need to be adaptable and actively participate in college activities, recognising that education is ever-evolving. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed. This job description is subject to periodic review and may be updated in consultation with the line manager to reflect the institution’s needs.

Requirements:The successful candidate will normally demonstrate the following characteristics:

• For Senior Lecturer Positions – Candidates should have a PhD degree in a relevant subject area.
• For Lecturer Positions – at least a Master’s degree in a relevant subject area. We prefer fresh PhDs or those who are pursuing a PhD.
• At least 2 years of Higher Education teaching experience.
• Ability to plan and deliver engaging, student-centred lessons in English.
• Student-focused approach to teaching.
• Effective at using assessment for and of learning.
• Relevant industry experience.
• Ability to contextualise learning for a Chinese context.
• It is desirable for candidates to have experience of teaching in a UK/International Higher Education Institution.
• It is desirable for candidates to have a dedicated teaching qualification.
• Non-native English-speaking candidates would normally have an IELTS 7.5 or equivalent.

Salary & Benefits:The position is a full-time teaching post based in Chengdu with a teaching load of up to twenty class hours per week, with a monthly salary starting above RMB 22,000 for a Senior Lecturer and RMB 18,000 for a Lecturer position, an annual flight allowance and an apartment or apartment allowance*.We offer all full-time staff the opportunity to study for a fully funded Postgraduate Certificate in International Education (PGCIE), as well as a full MA in Education (subject to line manager approval and overall teaching performance).
