We’re a FTSE 100 organisation that is tackling key issues such as transitioning our portfolio to net zero by 2050, and we’re not done yet.Context: Team and RoleThe Senior Investment Analyst will be an integral role in the Capital Markets team, which is responsible for the design, delivery and improvement of management information (MI), supplementary analysis and reporting for the wider strategy and solutions team, but with a specific focus on asset deployment strategy. The asset deployment covers assets new business flows, from either Bulk Purchase Annuities (BPA) or Individual Annuities, as well as the existing Phoenix Shareholder AUM.The position requires an understanding of an insurance balance sheet under SII, the ability to prepare strong, concise management information (MI), with a preference for the role holder to have coding skills in using both VBA and Python. Beyond the core function, the successful candidate will have many learning and development opportunities, such as getting involved in core asset strategy covering both public and private market fixed income investments and asset assumptions for BPA pricing.The successful candidate will report to and work closely with the Portfolio Implementation Lead within the Strategy and Solutions team, and work closely with the wider Capital Markets, Public Markets, Private Markets and Macro Markets teams as well as the wider ALM team.Key Responsibilities:

  • Support of Bulk Purchase Annuity (BPA) Transaction Pipeline – development monitoring and delivery of investment strategy using data gathered from internal and external sources and discussions with stakeholders
  • Preparation of Quantitative Analysis for Investment Recommendations – monitor and manage risk exposures and quantifying impacts of proposed management actions on Phoenix Capital Markets investment portfolios. Develop and maintain knowledge necessary to act as a subject matter expert.
  • Assistance in Preparation of Presentation Materials – creating customised analysis and presentations covering both market and strategic developments for the range of audience (asset management, internal committees up to board level) in a time sensitive environment
  • Monitoring of Market Developments in Key Areas Impacting Phoenix Group – interest rates, fixed income markets, broader macroeconomic indicators and ongoing news flow
  • Ongoing Business Project Management – tactical and strategic initiatives related to daily activities of the Strategy and Solutions team
  • Building and Managing Key Stakeholder Relationships
  • Internal – Direct and crucial support to wider Strategy and Solutions team, Portfolio Implementation Lead and Investment Managers in delivering strategic projects, management information and analysis
  • External – Analysts within banks and external asset managers.

What are we looking for?This role would suit someone from an actuarial / investment banking / asset management background, with a market-focussed approach.Experience (Essential)

  • Demonstrated prior experience at an insurer, asset manager or investment consultancy preferred. Specifically, prior experience in either;
  • i) Asset and Liability Management
  • ii) Investment Research and;
  • iii) Front Office Investment Analyst.
  • Experience and knowledge of capital markets, in particular fixed income and interest rates
  • Experience of working in a markets and transaction-driven investment environment
  • Understanding of Insurance Balance Sheet under Solvency II
  • Demonstrated modelling and analytical skills in VBA
  • Demonstrated capability of using Bloomberg

Skills

  • Good working knowledge of MS Office, PowerPoint. Python and Blackrock Aladdin would be an advantage
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, with the ability to translate and articulate complex information into a clear and concise fashion
  • Skilled in developing effective relationships and collaborating across a wide range of stakeholders and cross-functional teams
  • Very strong lateral and critical thinking ability, confidence in presenting new ideas and adopts a solutions-oriented approach

  • Self-motivated, strong prioritisation skills and to able to work manage varying deadlines

QualificationsTo complement the skill set required for this role, it would be valuable if you have an undergraduate degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Mathematics, Actuarial or similar, but this is not essential.
