Job description: Position SummaryUAE nationals are encouraged to applyNew York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint a Senior Financial Analyst reporting to the Director, Financial Accounting and Controller.This position supports the Controller’s Office by gathering, analyzing, and presenting financial information. The Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for preparing reports and dashboards, identifying financial trends, and ensuring compliance with university policies and procedures. This role also assists the Controller and the university community with gift and grant accounting.The Senior Financial Analyst collaborates with various stakeholders across the university to assist the Controller in organizing, managing, and reviewing quarterly presentations and meetings for the Revenue Accountability Committee.The successful candidate is expected to cultivate strong internal and external relationships and work closely with financial colleagues to deliver high-quality data and reporting capabilities. Additionally, the Senior Financial Analyst will seek opportunities to improve efficiency by automating and streamlining business management reporting and analytical processes. This includes leveraging reporting tools and exploring the potential of emerging technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence, to maximize time for in-depth analysis.Key Responsibilities:Financial and Data Analysis

  • Financial Reporting – Support in preparing accurate and timely financial statements, reports, and analyses for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP) and organizational policies
  • Month-End and Year-End Closings – Support the financial accounting team in month-end and year-end closing activities, including reconciliations, accruals, and adjustments, to ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial data
  • Variance Analysis – Conduct variance analysis on key financial data, comparing actual results to prior year figures, and providing explanations for significant differences
  • General Ledger Maintenance – Ensure the accuracy of the general ledger by performing regular reconciliations and reviewing account balances. Identify and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
  • Compliance and Policy Adherence – Monitor compliance with organizational policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements. Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and analysis
  • Process Improvement – Identify opportunities to streamline financial processes, reduce manual tasks, and enhance reporting efficiency. Contribute to the development and implementation of automated solutions where possible
  • Cross-Department Collaboration – Work closely with other finance and accounting colleagues, as well as departments across the organization, to gather data, validate information, and support financial decision-making

Gifts and Grants Compliance and AccountingPrincipal Accountabilities

  • Support the University’s Controller to develop, implement and monitor research and gift accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with NYU, NYUAD, UAE, and U.S. requirements
  • Collaborate with the Provost’s Office, NYU’s OSP,SP and Institutional Advancement (IA) to identify and lead projects to improve the efficiency and quality of sponsored programs
  • Support the provost office in developing and implementing training programs for faculty and administrators regarding NYUAD grant and gift policies and procedures
  • Work with the Fiscal Affairs team to review spending guidelines and reimbursable charges in accordance with NYUAD policies and sponsor requirements
  • Develop dashboards and monitor KPIs, and exception reports. Implement any necessary corrective actions based on results
  • Supervise grant/ gift data management and reporting functions. Serve as Subject Matter Expert including providing knowledge of compliance requirements, financial systems, business processes, rules, and definitions
  • Participate in month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities related to grants and gifts, and accounts receivables, perform complex analyses. Report results to the Controller
  • Maintain documentation for the grants and gifts area in accordance with NYUAD policy and sponsor terms and conditions
  • Oversee all audits and financial reviews of the grant and gift areas

Key tasks

  • Work with the budget office – review/ approval of award set-up and maintenance, including budget, modification, and chart of accounts
  • Determine the type and purpose of the project (e.g., grant, gift) and all relevant restrictions
  • Monitor transactions for compliance with NYU, NYUAD policies, U.A.E. and U.S. regulatory requirements. Conduct proactive monitoring/ reconciliation for after the fact review that meets standards for timeliness/ relevance. Reconcile discrepancies and ensure correction of all records, including the general ledger
  • Utilize FAME and UDW+ to access reports and obtain information to provide end users with clear, concise information
  • Ensure that the provost office undertakes steps to timely close-out grant and gift projects. Support the provost office in working with sponsors to ensure all technical and financial documentation requirements are met

Invoicing support for Capital and Lifecycle projects

  • Accurately process, review, and validate invoices related to Capital and life-cycle projects, ensuring all submissions meet internal and external requirements
  • Coordinate with project managers, the Accounts payable team, and other finance colleagues to verify invoicing details, obtain necessary approvals, and resolve any discrepancies in a timely manner
  • Work with the Accounting team and facilities management team to ensure that all the projects are adequately reflected in the fixed asset register and CAFM records
  • Daily review of Purchase Orders to identify and tag fixed asset purchases

Revenue Oversight Committee

  • Support the University’s Controller in undertaking quarterly / year-end Revenue Oversight Committee (ROC) meetings
  • Work with various departments and Government Partners in reviewing and finalising the quarterly / annual presentations for the ROC meetings
  • Organise and support the ROC meetings with internal stakeholders and Government Partners
  • Follow up and work with internal departments on the outcomes and action items as a result of ROC Meetings

Fixed Assets and Inventory

  • Responsible for all overall process for safeguarding fixed assets and financial reporting (non-budget) associated with fixed assets and inventory at the campus of NYUAD including but not limited to depreciation calculations, periodic physical inventory counts, compiling and maintaining relevant documentation; that includes journal entries, month-end analysis, quarterly and capital reports
  • Maintain a system of controls, procedures, and forms for the recording of fixed assets
  • Work with relevant departments and stakeholders to ensure accurate recording of fixed asset acquisitions, WIP and disposals in the accounting system
  • Track the progress of capital project, record WIP/Fixed Assets as relevant, liaise with departments and stakeholders as needed, complete close out requirements on completion of the project
  • Reconcile the balance in the fixed asset and inventory subsidiary ledger to the summary-level account in the general ledger

Other Adhoc Support

  • Support the Controller’s office team during the month-end and quarter-end process with reports and data for analysis
  • Develop reports and presentations based on data available in the University’s data repository, finding compelling ways to display the analysis results
  • Actively contributes to the continuous improvement of department processes through ongoing initiatives including solutions to automate, build efficiencies, and maintain consistency across multiple dashboards
  • Perform additional assignments and projects as requested by the University’s Controller

QualificationsRequired Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business management, economics, finance, accounting, or any related field

Preferred Education:Master’s Degree in business management, economics, finance, accounting, or any related fieldProfessional Financial and/or Accounting certificationRequired Experience:

  • 5+ years experience or equivalent combination in data warehouse analysis, report development or business analysis
  • Experience working with ERP financial systems such as Oracle and other financial management systems and software
  • Experience working with business intelligence tools (such as Tableau, OBIEE, Power BI, Business Objects, etc.) in a data warehouse environment
  • Excellent knowledge of business intelligence practices and tools, including simplified query tools
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent knowledge of developing and monitoring against key metrics
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills

Preferred Experience:

  • CPA or other qualifications (i.e. ACCA, CFA, CMA etc)
