Tēnei tūranga – About the Role:As the Senior Financial Accountant, you will utilise your deep subject matter expertise to provide advice to increase the understanding of financial accounting management within the Ministry.The Senior Financial Accountant assists the Manager to ensure team responsibilities are delivered, actively challenge the status quo and lifting the whole capability of the team, also mentor and coach other members of the team- so you’ll gain some valuable mentoring skills.The position ensures MBIE achieves and improves its internal control, compliance, and taxation requirements for all MBIE managed entities. The role has a specific emphasis on improving revenue accounting and ensuring these processes are effective, efficient and complied with. Lifting the financial control environment is of strategic importance.The Senior Financial Accountant completes detailed monthly General Ledger Balance Sheet reconciliations for the Crown and Department together with Trusts entities reporting clearing outstanding items identified to ensure that reported results are complete and accurate. Validation of this work occurs by means of a multi layered robust and detailed peer review and signoff process.We are already on a journey to become an exemplar Finance & Performance function which other New Zealand organisations will aspire to. • Proven experience in financial accounting, including revenue in a medium to large organisation
• High standards of professionalism and performance driven
• Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate technical information in plain language
• Ability to establish and maintain successful working relationships
• Knowledge and understanding of the public sector financial management environment including knowledge of relevant statutes (e.g. Public Finance Act), Government policy, the Treasury guidelines, accounting principles and management practices is a must.
• Technical accounting expertise in relation to PBE IPSAS, PBE IFRS and other relevant NZ GAAP applicable accounting standards
• Extensive experience in reconciliations, control, process improvement, risk management and has a focus on integrity
• A CA qualification supported by 5 years post CA experience or similar
• Must have the right to live and work in New Zealand
• Must consent to and satisfactorily complete a credit check
