- Provide accurate and authoritative advice to clients across the department on all matters relating to the administration and management of budgetary and financial resources.
- Identify and contribute to the development of budget and reporting policies, procedures, practices and systems to support the optimal utilisation of departmental funds and resources.
- The Senior Finance Advisor reports to the Principal Financial Advisor, Financial Strategy and Budget, Financial Strategy and Advice, Finance, Procurement and Facilities Division.
Responsibilities include:
- Maintain a high-level working knowledge of relevant Acts, Financial Management Practice Manual, relevant accounting standards and business practices.
- Undertake research and critical analysis of contemporary policies and processes that support effective finance functions in client business units and contribute to the implementation of these where appropriate.
- Development, implementation, management and review of functions and processes that contribute to improvements in business units’ budgetary, financial and asset management practices.
- Provide accurate, professional advice and consultancy to departmental clients and senior management on a diverse range of budgetary and financial issues affecting business unit functions.
- Review of journals and the monthly finance reports submitted by business units.
- Contribute to the preparation of the department’s monthly financial performance report.
- Contribute to the review and coordination of the department’s mid-year budget review processes.
- Build and sustain effective networks with colleagues, clients and stakeholders to ensure that knowledge and information is shared and organisational and client outcomes are achieved within determined frameworks and timeframes.
- Prepare briefing material and reports for senior management on substantial budget and financial management issues using advanced accounting and information software programs.
- Coordinate or assist in the development of training materials and delivery of training in budgetary and financial management processes for finance and non finance staff in business units.
- Actively encourage the building of organisational capabilities and professional expertise within a team and across the department.
