Design and execute condition monitoring programs and implement predictive maintenance strategies with advanced analytics. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, integrate monitoring tools with existing systems, mentor junior engineers, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. The position will act in accordance with the Group’s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as, policies, guidelines and international standards, supported by an IT Technology platform, HSE standards, Omani’s government & other legal justifications, and best international practices in consonance with national objectives.Main Tasks and Responsibilities
- Support electrical asset reliability management by providing technical expertise to operations and maintenance teams for critical electrical assets of high voltage and low voltage system including transformers, switchgear, motors, UPS, Variable frequency drives (VFDs), Soft starters, and Explosion-proof electrical equipment’s in field.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) and MTTR (Mean Time to Repair) to track electrical system reliability and improvements.
- Assist in daily troubleshooting and resolution of field electrical issues to ensure system reliability and stability.
- Identify potential risks related to the electrical power system and develop corrective actions to mitigate failures.
- Provide guidance on the selection, installation, and commissioning of new electrical equipment.
- Develop and implement reliability improvement plans for critical electrical assets to enhance performance and lifespan.
- Establish and maintain preventive and predictive maintenance programs to minimize failures and reduce facility downtime.
- Conduct Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) studies and develop strategies for long-term asset reliability.
- Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to investigate and mitigate electrical failures.
- Apply advanced reliability engineering principles, including reliability modelling, prediction, life testing, HALT, HASS, ALT, and warranty analysis.
- Perform remaining life assessments of electrical assets to support asset lifecycle management.
- Develop and implement condition monitoring techniques, including Thermal imaging, Partial discharge testing, Motor Current Signature Analysis (MCSA), Transformer oil analysis, Ultrasonic testing, UPS & power quality analysis, Insulation resistance testing, Transformer Turns Ratio (TTR) testing, and Circuit breaker testing.
- Analyse data from condition monitoring tools and recommend proactive corrective actions.
- Maintain a database of condition monitoring data and generate reliability performance reports for management.
- Prepare detailed reports on reliability performance, including analysis of failures, maintenance activities, and improvement initiatives.
- Maintain records of equipment history, maintenance activities, and reliability metrics.
- Implement predictive maintenance strategies using advanced analytics, machine learning, and reliability models.
- Conduct power system analysis using industry-standard software, ensuring the reliability and stability of the electrical distribution network.
- Manage power system models and perform various studies to support troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
- Lead power system protection coordination, ensuring compliance with modern technology and relaying systems.
- Assess the performance and quality of service provided by the electrical distribution network using reliability indices such as SAIFI, SAIDI, and CAIDI.
- Ensure compliance with international and national electrical codes, standards, and specifications.
- Develop, review, and update electrical Maintenance Craft Procedures (MCPs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to align with industry best practices.
- Conduct regular audits of maintenance practices and implement improvements.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system reliability and reduce maintenance costs.
- Support various projects and development activities from a reliability perspective.
- Facilitate cross-functional meetings to review reliability performance and develop action plans for continuous improvement.
- Manage electrical reliability and condition monitoring projects from inception to completion, ensuring budget adherence and timely delivery.
- Prepare project proposals, budgets, and schedules while coordinating with cross-functional teams to achieve project goals.
- Optimize maintenance costs, minimize unplanned downtime, and extend equipment lifespan through predictive maintenance and strategic asset management.
- Provide training and mentorship to junior engineers and maintenance personnel on electrical reliability and condition monitoring best practices.
- Share knowledge on industry trends, new technologies, and advancements in electrical reliability engineering.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering
- Excellent knowledge of written, read, and spoken English (required) | Arabic – Native (desirable)
- 12+ years of relevant experience in similar role specifically substations, power generation, or distribution
- Proficiency in condition monitoring techniques such as thermography, partial discharge analysis, and insulation resistance testing.
- Experience in working with online and offline monitoring systems.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable insights.
- Broad understanding of relevant process on upstream plants & applicable codes & standards and project specifications.
- Experience in plant troubleshooting, maintenance optimization & problem solving.
- Understanding of Process (P&IDs / PFDs) & Engineering drawings and OEM manuals.
- Relevant electrical certifications such as Certified Energy Manager (CEM), and Competent Electrical Person (CEP).
