Job description: DescriptionThe Sr. Director of Programs is responsible for all aspects of programmatic activities ensuring PWNA’s mission is being advanced through program services. Responsible for program development and revisions, direction of staff and communication about PWNA programs throughout the organization. Responsible for ensuring that the product necessary to operate the programs is available for staff and acquired within budget, including procurement of gift in kind. Responsible for monitoring the quality of programs and services. Oversee the development of relationships with tribal partners, tribal officials, public and private sector stakeholders. This position serves as a staff resource to the Board.Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions
- Provide direction and support to ensure internal and external relations are
based on our mission, vision, and core values.
- Ensure all compliance and regulatory requirements are met to operate a
safe facility, transport goods and deliver services.
- Staffing- Hire and retain staff for programming and warehouse operations; oversee the
training of all new employees and continued training of all current employees.
- Ensure that quarterly expectations for program and warehouse staff are
completed and monitored.
- Conduct the annual performance evaluation of program managers and
ensure that this is done for program and warehouse staff.
- Provide all necessary supervision, direction, and support for the program
managers.
- Provide direction and support to develop, implement and sustain long
term initiatives.
- Lead new program development and revision meetings. Ensure that
programs are reviewed and revised according to the PWNA programdevelopment format annually.
- Organize and lead annual meetings of program staff.
- Ensure that programs are executed according to established guidelines.
- Create with managers comprehensive Outreach and Partner Support Team
plans annually. Monitor the results of this plan.
- Keep program managers focused on the acquisition and retention of high
quality program partners.
- Review monthly monitoring reports that summarize program activities
and lessons learned. Ensure that lessons learned are incorporated into theprogram work.
- Monitor the annual work calendar to make sure important project
deadlines are met.
- Monitor and ensure that fundraising requirements are met by monthly meetings through
monthly meetings with the Sr. Director of Development.
- Work with the program staff and the procurement manager to ensure the
program staff have the products needed to provide programs that appealto partners.
- Manage and expand PWNA’s relationships with GIK and product donors.
Regularly keep GIK and donor groups apprised of our needs. Secure GIKthat help further our mission.
- Communicate the information needs of GIK and donor groups to Sr. Director of
Development.
- Ensure that distribution requirements of GIK and donor groups are met
- Reconcile GIK related general ledger accounts on a quarterly basis – in
collaboration with the finance department.
- Monitor overall program spending. Keep costs down without
compromising services.
- Keep the President/CEO apprised of potential expenditures that exceed
$20,000 including needed tools.
- Ensure that staff have the necessary tools to do their work safely and
productively.
- Ensure that PWNA’s warehouse operations are efficient and service
oriented.
- Monitor the expenses and quality of inbound logistics.
- Keep program staff focused on the recruitment and management of
volunteer force ensuring volunteers are available and contributing to ourprograms.
- Promote our services.
- Provide support and information to the Development Office related to
prospecting, partnership development, funding, GIK/donated product,and grant writing.
- Visit program sites and distributions on reservations quarterly to
stay familiar with the service area and partners, meet with tribal officials,monitor program quality and stay connected with the purpose of ourprograms.
- Oversee facility management to ensure a safe, clean, well maintained and
inviting work environment.
- Provide a bi-weekly report to PWNA’s President/CEO summarizing the
week’s events.
- Attend and actively participate in program meetings, manager meetings
and Board of Directors meetings when scheduled.RequirementsExperience/Position Requirements
- Substantial experience (7-10 years) working in the nonprofit sector and interacting with
volunteers and diverse boards. Alternatively, extensive senior-level, strategic experienceleading and developing organizations of comparable size and mission.
- A demonstrated track record of promoting diversity, personal integrity and
accountability, and the ability to build collaboration with the community at large.
- Experience in or across multiple sectors, including nonprofit, public and corporate
environments, and involving partnership development, team building and conflictmanagement.
- Ability to command the confidence and respect of stakeholders and the courage to shift
direction and lead the organization in an ever-changing environment.
- Should be familiar with social economic development policies affecting tribes at the
National level and various business development models/initiatives used by tribes topromote economic development.
- Proven effective leader and motivator who displays professionalism coupled with
business acumen and high emotional intelligence.
- Expressed desire to learn and familiarize oneself with the issues of Indian Country
and the philanthropic landscape of Native American issues.
- Travel (25%) and public appearances required.
Education Background Required
- Bachelor’s degree (advanced degree preferred) or a combination of education and
experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree.
- Relevant certifications preferred.
- Non-Profit experience in a leadership capacity preferred.
- Extensive Work experience in Indian country highly preferred.
