Position Overview:We are looking for a Senior Developer to join the My HealtheVet team and help drive the advancement of our healthcare platform for veterans. This role focuses on back-end development and the integration of Oracle Health (Cerner) systems. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise leveraging healthcare IT and interoperability skills to make a meaningful impact. Responsibilities:Key Responsibilities

  • System Optimization: Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and contribute to optimization efforts for reliability and high availability.
  • Healthcare Standards Compliance: Apply FHIR, HL7, and other healthcare data standards, ensuring HIPAA, FedRAMP, and VA security compliance.
  • Documentation and Mentorship: Develop code and system documentation, and mentor junior developers on best practices and DevSecOps processes.
  • Platform Development & Integration: Support the design, development, and integration of My HealtheVet with Oracle Health (Cerner) systems, contributing to a secure and scalable platform.
  • Cloud and Containerization: Collaborate with architects and developers to utilize AWS (GovCloud), Docker, and Kubernetes for efficient, secure, and scalable deployment.
  • Credential and Security Management: Implement credential services, authentication, and authorization mechanisms in line with VA standards.

Required Experience/Qualifications:Core Qualifications

  • Programming Experience: At least 5 years in software development with expertise in:
  • Languages & Frameworks: Java, J2EE, Spring Framework, Spring Boot, Hibernate, RabbitMQ, JDK, and other modern languages.
  • Back-End & Database Technologies: Well-versed in Java, Maven, Oracle, SQL, and related frameworks and libraries.
  • API Development and Testing: Experience in developing and testing APIs.
  • Front-End Support: Ability to transition between back-end and front-end support (JSF, XHTML) as needed.
  • Kubernetes, Rancher, and Docker: Strong skills in these containerization tools, particularly within AWS environments.
  • Security Standards: Experience developing applications compliant with security standards and protocols.
  • AWS Ecosystem: Proficiency in AWS products, including DynamoDB, Lambda, Data Pipeline, EC2, CodeCommit, CloudTrail, CloudFormation, CloudWatch, API Gateway, CloudFront, ELB, IAM, Cognito, Key Management Service, and S3.

DevSecOps & Agile Experience:

  • Development Pipeline: Experience in a DevSecOps environment, building and managing pipelines with Jenkins and GitHub.
  • Agile Methodologies: Comfortable working in Scrum or Kanban environments.
  • Testing and Troubleshooting: Proficient with unit testing tools (JUnit, Mockito), and experienced with troubleshooting in complex enterprise systems with deep integrations.
  • Cybersecurity: Knowledgeable in cyber security tools such as CodeQL, Nessus, WebInspect, and AppDetective.
  • Self-Starter: Able to independently troubleshoot and resolve local and system issues.

Preferred Experience/Qualifications:

  • Content Management: Experience with content management tools.
  • Advanced Technology Stacks: Knowledge of additional stacks (MERN, MEAN, LAMP) and microservices architectures.
  • Architecture Insight: Interest or experience in system architecture, scalability, and performance optimization.
  • Veterans Administration Knowledge: Experience with VA systems is a plus, as is familiarity with government healthcare IT.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
