Job description: Senior Database Specialist 100% (m/w/d) – PostgreSQL /Azure / SQL Server / Remote & hybridBackground:
For a leading energy provider we are looking for an accomplished Senior Database Specialist to serve as the single point of contact for all PostgreSQL-on-Azure topics within the Database Services Team. You will support real-time energy-trading, asset-management and predictive-maintenance applications and design secure, highly available database platforms, optimise performance, and coach colleagues across IT and Operations. The engagement is a 12-month contract, primarily remote or hybrid (preferred hubs: Baden CH, Madrid ES). The successful candidate must be willing and able to work on-site in Switzerland or Spain for roughly one week every five weeks.Tasks & Responsibilities:

• Act as single point of contact & co-ordinate PostgreSQL (Azure) topics for the Database Services Team
• Define the best practice setup configuration and operation of PostgreSQL (Azure) systems for maximum security, stability and performance
• Operating, managing & supporting PostgreSQL (Azure) & Microsoft SQL Server (on premise & Azure) solutions
• Implement and advise on Industry standard, best practice and creative database solutions
• Work closely with Operations, Development and Business teams to identify operational & performance issues
• Participate in the testing, delivery and deployment of database improvements through the software development lifecycle and into production
• Use internal and external monitoring tools to identify trends in technical system performance
• Proactively lead and own database problems and incidents to resolution
• Implement alerting and processes to prevent and identify database issues to reduce operational and business impact
• Document and share knowledge to increase the overall technical understanding of the Operations and Development teams
• Communicate and cooperate with vendors on issue resolution
• Work collaboratively and professionally with others in cross functional teams to achieve goals
• Advise, influence and mentor to Development and Operations teams on database topics

Required Skills and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or relevant field or equivalent experience
• Senior level DBA experience (5+ years) supporting Production Applica-tions on PostgreSQL (Azure) & Microsoft’s SQL Server platforms in a high pressure environment (e.g. Trading)
• Demonstrable experience of defining & implementing best practice configuration & operating standards for PostgreSQL (Azure)
• Experience of migrating to PostgreSQL (Azure)
• High availability and DR solutions
• Production system monitoring across all levels of the technology stack (Network, SAN, Servers, Database instance, Database)
• Performance tuning
• Microsoft’s BI toolset: Analysis Services, Reporting Services, Integration Services & PowerBI
• Other database products & technologies, exposure to Oracle.
• Exposure to automating tasks using Powershell or community solutions
• DevOps principles & tools
• Knowledge of IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) standards and the principles of service delivery
• Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
• Independence, initiative and team skills
• Flexible, motivated and able to work under pressure to deliver results & meet deadlines
• Ability to communicate complex subjects at different levels (e.g. to support, developers, senior managers & business colleagues)
