Job description: About the DepartmentThe Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) regulates vocational education and training (VET) in Australia, ensuring quality and confidence in the sector. Supporting over 4 million students annually, ASQA applies a risk-based approach to regulation, partnering with stakeholders to uphold standards. It oversees VET providers, English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS), and national training standards.Key Duties

• actively monitor VET providers that are exhibiting financial risks
• undertake risk assessments of VET providers in accordance with the Financial Viability Risk Assessment Requirements Instrument 2021
• prepare financial analysis reports that provide well-reasoned advice on VET providers exhibiting financial risks, ensuring analyses identifies recommendations and next steps
• contribute to initiatives that support VET providers to identify and implement strategies to improve their financial performance
• contribute to process improvements, including inputting to revisions to ASQA’s approach to the assessment of VET provider financial viability and conduct – and preparing work instructions and standard operating procedures
• work collaboratively with other team members and participate in peer reviewing financial analysis reports
• support the Assistant Director, Financial Viability by identifying and escalating risks and emerging issues in a timely manner.

Selection criteria

• Experience undertaking financial viability analyses and presenting findings in reports that are easy for a variety of audiences to understand.
• Ability to interpret and apply legislation to determine whether VET providers are complying with regulatory obligations.
• Ability to work independently, with limited instruction, to deliver quality outcomes within tight timeframes.
• Stakeholder engagement skills that demonstrate an ability to build professional relationships internally within ASQA and externally with VET providers and other government agencies.
• Strong analytical and written and verbal communication skills.

Mandatory:

• To apply for this position, you must be an Australian Citizen.
• The successful applicant will be required to undergo employment checks and obtain a Baseline security clearance (if they do not already possess).

Desirable:

• Experience applying financial analysis skills and knowledge in the VET sector or another regulatory environment.
• Professional accounting qualifications (i.e. CA, CPA).
• Experience working in a compliance/regulatory environment.
