Mō māto | About usThe Historic Claims team manages claims of abuse or neglect for people who were in the care, custody or guardianship of the Child Welfare Division, the Department of Social Welfare, or Child, Youth and Family.The team operates an out of court alternative dispute resolute process that enables people who have been abused in State care, to address their concerns without them needing to resort to civil litigation.The Ministry of Social Development is a people-centred organisation. We provide social policy and advice to government and assistance, including income, employment and housing support to people of all ages, families, whānau and communities.Mō te tūnga | About the roleAs a Senior Advisor Strategy, Planning and Reporting you will provide insight, strategic and tactical advice on a range of matters and identify and manage potential risks across the Historic Claims team. You will work closely with the Strategy, Planning and Reporting team in developing and implementing a programme of work that supports Historic Claims to deliver a claimant-centred way of operatingDrafting reports, memos, responding to requests from the Ministry, other government agencies, and external parties, you’ll support management and contribute to the provision of replies to all Ministerial Parliamentary questions, Official Information Act requests and correspondence.You will enjoy working with and be skilled in all aspects of Data i.e. collation, analysis and manipulation; enabling informed decision making by providing easier interpretation of trends and change through the generation of your analysis reports.Ko wai koe | About you

  • To be considered as a strong contender for this pivotal role you will ideally have;
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Exceptional writing and diagnostic skills.
  • Excellent computer literacy e.g. MS Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and assess both strategic and operational risks.
  • Experience in the social services or government sector.
  • Strong Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think broadly and consider the bigger picture.
  • Experience with OIA’s and parliamentary responses.
  • An understanding of the New Zealand’s machinery of government.
  • Experience and knowledge of the public sector reporting processes.
  • Proven ability to connect with people at all levels and to build trust and rapport, across the wider organisation.
  • An understanding of Te Reo me ona tikanga Māori.
