Job description: Job Description: Senior Accountant – Construction IndustryPosition Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Accountant with a strong background in the construction industry. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for managing and overseeing all accounting functions related to construction projects, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, and providing financial analysis and reporting to support the company’s goals. This role requires expertise in construction accounting practices, cost management, and the ability to collaborate with project managers and senior leadership.Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage day-to-day accounting operations related to construction projects, including but not limited to accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger entries.
  • Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, in accordance with accounting standards and construction industry practices.
  • Prepare and review job cost reports, including tracking project costs, budgets, and variances, ensuring the financial performance of construction projects is within budget and timelines.
  • Assist with the preparation and management of project budgets, forecasts, and financial projections.
  • Maintain and update project work-in-progress (WIP) reports, ensuring proper recognition of revenue, costs, and work completion percentages in line with contractual terms and accounting guidelines.
  • Coordinate with project managers, estimating teams, and subcontractors to gather necessary financial information and resolve any discrepancies in project costing or billing.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with internal controls, construction accounting standards (such as percentage-of-completion and completed contract methods), and tax regulations.
  • Prepare and review monthly and quarterly financial analysis reports to provide management with accurate and actionable insights into project profitability, cash flow, and overall financial performance.
  • Manage construction-related tax filings, including sales tax, use tax, and other industry-specific taxes.
  • Participate in audits, working closely with external auditors to provide necessary documentation and resolve any audit findings.
  • Train and mentor junior accounting staff, providing guidance and support in construction-specific accounting practices.
  • Assist in system improvements, automation, and process efficiencies to enhance the accounting operations for construction projects.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, with at least 3 years in the construction industry, specifically working with construction contracts, project accounting, and cost management.
  • Strong understanding of construction accounting principles, including job costing, revenue recognition, and contract billing methods (e.g., percentage-of-completion, completed contract).
  • Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel advanced skills required).
  • Experience with construction management software (e.g., Procore, Sage 300 Construction & Real Estate, Viewpoint, or similar) is highly desirable.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze financial data and provide actionable insights.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with project managers, leadership, and external parties.
  • Knowledge of tax regulations, industry standards, and compliance requirements related to construction accounting.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with government or large-scale commercial construction projects.
  • Familiarity with bond and insurance requirements in the construction industry.
  • Advanced knowledge of construction billing, including progress billing, retention, and change orders.

Job Type: Full-timePay: RO500.000 – RO650.000 per month
