Job description: SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) Strategy Delivery PartnerPermanent, Full Time£43,139 to £50,752 Per AnnumLocation: EssexWorking Style:Closing Date: 13th April 2025The RoleThe prevalence of children and young people in Essex schools and settings with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs has increased exponentially over recent years both locally and nationally. Their inclusion in education has become increasingly challenging.The SEMH Strategy Team leads Essex County Council’s strategic response to the challenges placed on the education system by the growth in children and young people with SEMH needs to enable schools and education settings to better support them. To find out more about the SEMH Strategy Team, please visit:The role requires an experienced education professional with an understanding of children and young people’s SEMH needs with the ability to work across Quadrant Education teams, other local authority teams, schools and settings, finding common purpose to deliver high quality outcomes.To read more about our business area, please visit:Accountabilities

  • Accountable for the development, delivery and ongoing oversight of a school-led model of support for SEMH provision and approaches in schools and education settings.
  • Responsible for the implementation and delivery of specialist Trauma Perceptive Practice (TPP) – the Essex approach to understanding behaviour and supporting emotional wellbeing, to include designing and delivering high-quality training to schools, settings and professionals relating to TPP and SEMH needs.
  • Responsible for ensuring that TPP is underpinned and informed by cutting-edge research and evidenced-based approaches for the benefit of the Essex pupil population.
  • Lead and/or collaborate within the wider SEND and Mental Health services on areas of need to provide best practice guidance and resources for schools and settings, families and young people.
  • Accountable for delivering on a data-based approach to inform and focus strategic support for Essex schools and settings based on the needs of their individual pupil populations.
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders to oversee and quality assure Essex primary and secondary SEMH enhanced provisions and the Essex SEMH special schools to ensure successful outcomes and wider system impact.
  • Accountable for the development of clear actions plan to implement and deliver the outcomes of the Southend, Essex and Thurrock Children and Young People Mental Health Education Board.
  • Specific individual and shared targets and objectives are defined annually within the performance management framework.

The Experience You Will Bring

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent by experience.
  • Experience of working with children and young people including those with SEMH needs, and detailed knowledge of research-informed interventions and approaches.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development and expert knowledge in children and young people’s SEMH needs in schools and educational settings.
  • Ability and confidence to lead peers, colleagues and stakeholders in collaborative working.
  • Ability to work flexibly and creatively.
  • Ability to lead organisational and cultural change across schools, educational settings and external partners.
  • Ability to be organised, self-motivated and driven to achieve the desired outcomes within the timescales.
  • Excellent leadership and behavioural skills with the ability to present complex, subject specific information to a wide range of audiences, in a clear and concise manner.
