We are responsible for supporting New Zealand to develop a sustainable relationship with our land, through the delivery of exceptional science across a wide range of disciplines.Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the roleLandscape Policy and Governance teamWe lead research that explores and supports the human dimensions of the terrestrial environment. This team complements Manaaki Whenua’s biophysical science by focusing on the economic and sociocultural processes and information needed to improve environmental outcomes. They reveal and inform decision making by individuals, industry, government, Māori, and community organisations. This team adds value by integrating economic, social, kaupapa Māori, and biophysical research, by brokering knowledge that results in solutions.The Science Team Leader supports our vision by:

  • Overseeing the performance, development, and utilisation of the team’s scientific talent.
  • Managing people’s capability and capacity to ensure optimal resource utilisation, enhance staff career development, and foster a collaborative and productive work environment.
  • Aligning team resources to science projects either within the group or in support of cross-organisation research and planning the medium-term capability direction

This position is permanent, full time (37.5 hours per week), reports to the Science Group Manager – Catalysing Change and can be based at any of our Manaaki Whenua sites (Auckland, Hamilton, Palmerston North, Wellington, Lincoln or Dunedin).Ō pūmanawa | About youYou will possess a post-graduate qualification in a scientific discipline or relevant field or have extensive people leadership experience in science.
