Job description: Offer DescriptionResearch and Development Engineer with a focus on ELECTRON MICROSCOPYspecialises in the synthesis of materials, their surface treatment and advanced characterisation. Our goal is to understand the relationships between the structure and properties of materials and, based on this knowledge, to design new functional systems for specific technical applications. The department also includes which provides expert support and state-of-the-art technical equipment for a wide range of materials and research tasks. The laboratory is equipped with scanning electron microscopes (pFIB-SEM, FESEM and SEM), an atomic force microscope (AFM) and optical microscopy (OM), and provides support to internal and external users in the analysis of micro- and nanostructures of materials.What will your work involve
- Development of the laboratory workplace – analysis of needs and trends in professional and technological progress, design and implementation of innovative methodologies and work procedures.
- Preparation and implementation of scientific research projects that contribute to the development of the technical background, capacities and research activities of the laboratory.
- Communication with service laboratory users and provision of support in measurement and analysis planning
What we expect
- University degree in materials engineering, physics, chemistry, nanotechnology or related fields
- Practical experience with electron microscopy and related characterisation techniques (AFM, optical microscopy), including sample preparation
- Good knowledge of microstructural and materials analysis, ability to interpret results and propose measurements
- Experience in preparing or solving research and application projects – ideally at national (e.g. TAČR) and international (e.g. Horizon Europe) level
- Ability to conceptually develop the laboratory’s activities – planning development activities, identifying opportunities for cooperation, proposing project plans
- Organisational and coordination skills; experience in team leadership and project management
- Independence, technical thinking, thoroughness and ability to work effectively across teams and with laboratory users.
- Knowledge of Czech and English at least at B2 level
Working hours and salary
- Your position will be a research scientist (C2)
- Full-time (40 hours/week), or as agreed
- Expected start date: 1 January 2026 or as agreed
- We offer a fixed-term employment contract with the possibility of extension to a permanent contract
- In addition to your salary, you may be eligible for a salary supplement or performance bonus based on your previous experience
