Job description: Our client, an energy equipment and services company, is looking for a R&D Support Technician to support the development and testing of electronic prototypes. This role involves coordinating prototype builds, assembling and configuring systems, and supporting internal teams throughout the product development cycle.Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate materials, tools, and resources for prototype builds.
  • Collaborate with sourcing, NPI purchasing, R&D, and production teams.
  • Perform soldering (through-hole and SMT), rework, and component installation.
  • Assemble high-level modules such as heatsinks, shields, and insulators.
  • Program devices including FPGA and power sequencers, and flash firmware.
  • Conduct board bring-up and basic debugging.
  • Build cable harnesses and configure auxiliary devices.
  • Assemble and test complete systems.
  • Troubleshoot and document non-compliance issues.
  • Maintain and update work procedures.
  • Coordinate hardware for demos and reviews.
  • Prepare and package samples for shipment.

Essential Skills

  • Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or Electronics.
  • 2+ years of experience in an R&D lab, electronics assembly, or similar environment.
  • Proficiency with hand tools such as soldering irons, crimpers, and multimeters.
  • Experience with test equipment like multimeters and Omicron.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • System configuration including setting up auxiliary devices and preparing systems for functional testing.
  • Experience with UR relays and JTAG programming.
  • Familiarity with protection relays, substation automation, or SCADA systems.
  • Experience with relay configuration, testing, and diagnostics.
  • Knowledge of firmware flashing and device programming.
  • Experience supporting SAFe Agile Release Trains (ARTs).

Work EnvironmentThis position is based in Markham, with a 40-hour work week on-site . The team consists of approximately 50 people, but for this role, you will be interacting with five other team members.
