Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunityThe Purchasing & Stores Manager plays a crucial role in the School of Hospitality & Tourism, ensuring the smooth operation of purchasing and store functions that support AUT’s training kitchens, restaurants, and related facilities. This role is responsible for procurement, supplier negotiations, stock management, and food safety compliance while leading a team of professional technicians.You will be instrumental in developing and maintaining efficient systems, ensuring quality control, and working closely with academic teams to deliver an excellent learning environment for students.Key Responsibilities

  • Procurement & Supplier Management – Manage purchasing of food, beverage, and equipment, ensuring value for money and high-quality products.
  • Stock Control & Systems Management – Maintain effective inventory systems to track, control, and report on stock usage, wastage, and efficiency.
  • Leadership & Staff Development – Lead and mentor the stores and technical support team, fostering a high-performing and professional culture.
  • Food Safety & Compliance – Oversee the School Food Safety Programme (FSP), ensuring compliance with industry standards and legislative requirements.
  • Facilities & Equipment Maintenance – Ensure kitchen and store facilities are well-maintained and adhere to AUT’s health and safety policies.

He kōrero mōu | About youTo be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Proven experience in procurement and stock management, ideally within the hospitality, education, or food service sectors.
  • Strong leadership skills, with experience managing teams and fostering a collaborative working environment.
  • Expert knowledge of food safety legislation and compliance.
  • Excellent relationship-building and negotiation skills, with the ability to work with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Financial acumen, including experience managing budgets and optimising cost efficiencies.
  • Computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and inventory management systems.

A tertiary qualification in business, hospitality, or a related field is desirable.
