Job description: Position OverviewWe are seeking experienced Project Controls Engineers with strong expertise in cost control, scheduling, risk management, and project reporting to support planning and execution across complex infrastructure and energy projects. This role will serve as a key contributor to the Front-End Planning (FEP) process and will support full lifecycle project control from initiation through closeout. This is a 100% onsite position based in Oshawa, ON.Key ResponsibilitiesFront-End Planning (FEP)Act as a core project team member, driving and facilitating Front-End Planning activities.Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on FEP processes, providing input and recommendations for Value Engineering and Project Definition Rating Index (PDRI) workshops.Coordinate and lead project scoping, risk workshops, and development of Risk Management Plans.Support the development of project estimates and initiate estimating contracts when needed.Work collaboratively to develop resource-loaded, logically-sequenced project schedules (Primavera/MS Project) that align with scope, risks, constraints, and budgets.Support preparation of the Project Execution Plan (PEP) and Business Case Summaries.Obtain stakeholder alignment across Engineering, Design, GMO, and other partners.Project Monitoring & ControlDevelop and maintain accurate project schedules throughout all phases.Integrate project data into control systems (e.g., AS9, Proliance, Prosight) and ensure alignment with source systems (e.g., Tempus, SAP, Oncore).Perform regular updates, forecasting, variance analysis, and cost/schedule tracking.Provide risk tracking, maintenance of the Risk Register, and recommend mitigation strategies.Generate project metrics and provide analytical support to Project Managers.Change ManagementEnsure compliance with approved change control procedures.Prepare and process change documentation; update project schedules and costs accordingly.Conduct “what-if” analyses and maintain integrity of project baselines.Preserve auditable documentation for all project changes.Cost & Schedule AssuranceEnsure schedules reflect current and accurate field execution plans.Reconcile project financial data across systems; resolve discrepancies promptly.Monitor quality of project schedules including logic ties, float, critical path, and dependencies.Validate and verify standard reporting accuracy and data integrity.Stakeholder CollaborationLiaise with cross-functional teams including Finance, Engineering, Design, and Field Execution groups to ensure alignment on schedule and cost expectations.Collect and confirm cost/schedule commitments and updates from internal and external partners.Business Planning & Financial OversightEstablish and manage control budgets; support annual planning processes.Track contractor performance against project plans; identify and escalate risks or deviations.Manage PO tracking (actuals, forecasts, payments, accruals) and recommend corrective actions.Project CloseoutSupport financial and administrative project closeout activities.Finalize system reconciliations and ensure closure of AS9, SAP, Oncore, and related tools.Maintain comprehensive documentation for audit purposes (e.g., PEP, BCS, change forms).Continuous ImprovementContribute to the ongoing enhancement of PMO processes and project control systems.QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Finance, or a related field—or equivalent education and experience.6–8 years of experience in project controls within the energy sector (preferably nuclear, hydroelectric, or thermal generation).Strong understanding of project scoping, risk management, budgeting, estimating, and scheduling practices.Proficient in Primavera, MS Project, SAP, and other relevant project management and financial systems.Demonstrated experience in project support roles with cross-functional teams.Familiarity with corporate financial processes and enterprise-level control systems.Excellent communication, collaboration, and analytical skills.**We thank all applicants for applying, however only those considered for an interview will be contacted directly**Spirit Omega is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace.
