These initiatives are delivered through partnerships with youth- and community-focused organizations, ensuring accessible and engaging learning experiences.Key components of the program include:

  • STEM Sparks – Hands-on, interactive STEM modules designed to spark curiosity and increase youth interest, confidence, and awareness in STEM. These sessions are delivered in collaboration with partners such as Lay-Up Youth Basketball, TCHC Rookie League, and other community organizations during their day camp programming.
  • Workshops & Community Engagement – Pop-up workshops and hands-on STEM learning opportunities tailored for youth across different communities, creating accessible entry points for STEM exploration.

Position OverviewAs a Program Facilitator for the Catalyst and Community Engagement program, you will play a key role in delivering dynamic, high-impact STEM experiences to youth. Collaborating closely with team members and community stakeholders, you will bring innovative programming to life, fostering participants’ growth in STEM knowledge, practical skills, and social-emotional development. This role empowers youth to connect STEM concepts to their everyday lives, inspiring curiosity and confidence. We are seeking individuals who are passionate about supporting youth in low-income and racialized communities, with a strong facilitation background and a commitment to equity in education. You will work alongside program coordinators and report to various project leads, including program managers or directors, depending on the initiative.Position Details

  • Contract Type/Term: Seasonal, Hourly Full-Time Contract.
  • Note: During May and June, work hours may vary and be less than 35 hours per week to accommodate training and workshop preparation.
  • Contract Duration: May 19, 2025 – September 5, 2025
  • Hours of Work/Schedule: Up to 35 hours/week, Monday to Friday
  • Job Location(s): In-person in different communities and locations around the GTA. Please note, ability to travel to different locations within in Toronto is required.
  • Salary: $23.15 CAD/hr

Major Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to)Program Delivery & Facilitation

  • Plan and lead interactive STEM-based workshops for youth (Grades 3-8) using inquiry-based learning approaches.
  • Create a welcoming, inclusive space that encourages active participation and fosters social, emotional, and academic development.
  • Support the design and implementation of lesson plans in collaboration with program staff.
  • Supervise and mentor participants, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
  • Support youth in showcasing their learning and career experiences to peers and community members at the end of summer youth showcase.

Community Engagement & Outreach

  • Build strong relationships with program participants, families, staff, and community partners.
  • Foster leadership, teamwork, and self-advocacy skills among youth, encouraging them to take ownership of their learning and educational/professional development.
  • Promote leadership, teamwork, and self-advocacy skills among youth.
  • Engage in outreach efforts to ensure diverse participation and meaningful impact.

Program Coordination & Administration

  • Track program-related expenses and support logistical needs (e.g., packing/restocking inventory).
  • Collect and analyze participant feedback through surveys and focus groups.
  • Assist in program documentation and reporting.
  • Represent Visions of Science at public events, supporting program visibility and stakeholder engagement.

What We’re Looking ForEducation & Training

  • Candidates pursuing or holding a degree in STEM, education, social work, or child/youth care are preferred.

Experience & Expertise

  • At least one (1) year of facilitation experience with Visions of Science or two (2) years of experience in community programming focused on youth from low-income/marginalized communities.
  • Proven experience in curriculum development, lesson planning, and delivering engaging workshops.
  • Strong behavior management, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
  • A track record of working effectively in community-based environments with diverse populations, demonstrating cultural sensitivity and inclusion.

  • Effective Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences and foster open, respectful dialogue.
  • Adaptability & Problem-Solving: Flexible and creative in addressing challenges, with a commitment to delivering impactful, responsive programs that meet the evolving needs of participants.

Additional Asset(s)

  • Lived experience from low-income and/or racialized communities.
  • A G license and access to a vehicle.
  • Experience in the non-profit sector with knowledge of systemic barriers affecting our communities.
