When nature thrives, we all thrive.He angitūtanga | About the roleThe purpose of this role is to successfully contribute to the research and development of applied technical solutions, systems and processes underpinning National Biodiversity Monitoring Programmes. This includes BioInvest and other data management systems needed to support an integrated monitoring approach nationwide.These include organisational structures, planning, training, quality assurance frameworks, sample management processes, data and information management systems. The role is pivotal in ensuring the underpinning systems and processes for implementation of National Biodiversity Monitoring programmes are integrated, robust, relevant, and practical.The position plays a leadership role in supporting Directors, Managers, and Principal Advisors for Science Investment. It lifts the capability and aspirations of technical and science advisors in the Biodiversity Group through coaching, mentoring and fostering a culture of learning.Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experienceThe Principal Technical Advisor position requires an expert practitioner in their field of applied scientific endeavour, to provide professional leadership to other staff on technical guidance and applied research support. A proven track record in technical leadership and a positive attitude and commitment to delivery will be essential to your success. Alongside this we are seeking:

• Experience as a principal advisor in a complex and changing environment, translating context into practical implementation
• Experience in leading strategic direction, encouraging and organising others in a multi-faceted project environment
• Experience leading research and development tools and methods and proactively communicating complex science in an effective manner
• Proven ability in developing relationships, communicating and liaising with senior managers, partners, internal and external partners/stakeholders
• Strong understanding of Te Ao Māori, and experience engaging and working directly with whānau, hapū and iwi
• Proven ability to deliver on work plan tasks and monitor performance expectation across a technical cohort
• An understanding and knowledge of conservation management work
• Outstanding interpersonal and presentation skills
• Strong written and negotiation skills.
