Job description: Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this roleMō te tūnga | About the roleWe are looking for a skilled and knowledgeable maintenance and systems engineer to join our team and provide expert engineering support for a broad range of interesting military equipment to support the NZ Army and Joint Force operations.You will:

  • Provide advice to stakeholders on maintenance planning and technical documentation to achieve optimal through-life support.
  • Support and enable stakeholders to adhere to the principles, practice and continuous improvement of design control, configuration management, test and evaluation, technical data management and systems integration.
  • Provide operational leadership, allocate resources and manage team performance.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and implement industry best practice.
  • Establish relationships and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
  • Engage stakeholders with the planning and decision-making processes, ensuring their needs and perspectives are considered.
  • Proactively identify and assess potential risks associated with land equipment and engineering operations.
  • Manage and investigate incidents of non-compliance or operational failures, ensuring timely and thorough resolution.

This is an exciting opportunity to make this new role your own and influence the NZDF’s engineering system at a senior level.This role is based in Messines Defence Centre in Trentham, Upper Hutt, close to the train station. There is limited free car parking on site and free on street car parking nearby. Occasional travel is required.Once you have undergone training and are up to speed, there is the option of working from home up to two days a week.Please Note: The formal title for this role within the NZDF is Principal Maintenance Engineer.Applications will be reviewed upon receipt. You will understand industry best practice and be able to identify opportunities for improvement.You will be able to engage effectively with stakeholders to understand their requirements. You will have excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical information to non-technical audiences.You will also have:

  • In depth experience in a maintenance management role.
  • A good understanding of systems engineering.
  • Leadership and management experience is useful but not essential.
  • A degree or diploma in engineering is advantageous, however we are open to applicants with equivalent work experience and knowledge.
