Tēnei tūranga – About the Role:Join our dynamic team as a Principal Advisor Physical Security Offshore, where you’ll provide physical security expertise to enable MBIE to achieve its business priorities, meet Government-mandated protective security requirements and achieve a high level of capability maturity.The Principal Advisor Physical Security Offshore is a highly experienced PHYSEC practitioner with a good understanding of all aspects of the New Zealand Government’s Protective Security Policy Framework, particularly in relation to physical security

  • You will support the Head of Protective Security and the Chief Security Officer to ensure MBIE has robust and functional physical security design that is fit for purpose and enables business groups to carry out their business activities safely and securely offshore.
  • You will design security-in-depth through the use of a combination of security measures to protect and control access to our people, information, physical assets and premises; and physical security products that provide the right level of protection as determined by your risk assessment for our offshore work locations.
  • You will collaborate to ensure physical security offshore emergency response procedures are tested to confirm they are fit for purpose and the organisation is adequately prepared for a significant service interruption, attack or other serious incident.
  • You will collaborate to ensure we have adequate processes and procedures for redeploying or destroying our offshore facilities, information, or assets securely.
  • You will work with business managers, senior advisors, suppliers, vendors, contractors, functional leads and practitioners to achieve this.
  • You will review offshore events and security incidents, translating these into tangible actions for MBIE staff and leaders.
  • Flexible working with one-two days per week, and in the office three-four days per week.

Ngā pukenga me ngā wheako e hiahiatia ana – Skills and Experience RequiredTo be successful in this role you:

  • Will have a thorough understanding of the Government’s Protective Security Requirements, particularly relating to physical security (refer to https://www.protectivesecurity.govt.nz/policy/physical-security).
  • Significant experience working within the PHYSEC domain in the protective security community of practice, and/or relevant trade experience e.g. builder, electrician, locksmith, etc.
  • Experience designing physical security for offshore premises and staff residences, and working collaboratively with facilities managers, building owners, trades, contractors and other agencies to ensure installation achieves the agreed security design.
  • Experience supporting staff pre-deployment, educating them on offshore locations and how to navigate the threats and vulnerabilities they may encounter while they work there.
  • Credible in front of business owners and senior leaders.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills – ability to quickly establish and build strong working relationships.
  • Experience contributing subject matter expertise during an offshore crisis or incident.
  • Experience in submitting plans for offshore certification and accreditation by the relevant decision-makers.
  • Flexibility to adapt quickly to changing business requirements.
