This post-doctoral position focuses on ship-shore communication in autonomous shipping. You will be part of a talented and ambitious team at DTU Department for Technology, Management and Economics (DTU Management) and Maritime DTU, which is situated at the heart of DTU’s mission to develop and create value for society.DTU Management develops decision support tools enabling shipping companies and ports to operate in a more sustainable and efficient manner. The research is motivated by the rapid development of autonomous maritime technologies. Moreover, planning problems within the maritime sector are pushing the limits of assessment and optimisation methods, creating a new breeding ground for advanced modelling and solution methods. Research carried out during the last years includes optimisation and assessment tools for shipping companies and ports, autonomous shipping modelling and applications. Our research methodologies are situated within engineering, computer science and economics.Responsibilities
The post-doctoral researcher will work on the research project “Ship-shore Enhanced communication Approach” using Digital Twin in the Era of Autonomous Maritime technologies. The overall goal of the project is to develop a safe, secure and smart autonomous ship-shore communication approach addressing the highly complex interfaces among many objects ship-to-shore to enable Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS) systems. The utilization of a Digital Twin model is a valuable tool in this context. Implementing this model allows stakeholders to simulate various communication scenarios. The post-doctoral researcher is required to develop a Digital Twin framework model and simulations for decision support.Your primary tasks will be to:

  • Conduct research in Ship-shore Enhanced communication Approach using Digital Twin in the Era of Autonomous Maritime technologies
  • Analyse literature, data and information
  • Conduct modelling, develop a digital Twin framework model and perform simulation experiments
  • Conduct presentations
  • Prepare scientific papers for publications
  • Discuss collaborations with potential parties and implement the collaborations
  • Contribute to the academic activities at the department
  • Assist in co-supervision of BSc and MSc students, as well as assist in guiding PhD students

Qualifications and expectations:

  • Excellent academic results from a top-rated university
  • Good analytical, modelling and quantitative research skills, in particular, simulation methods
  • Capable of programming and using tools such as MATLAB, Python
  • Good knowledge in autonomous shipping/ digital twin/ autonomous technologies/ related areas
  • A good team member with good communication and interpersonal skills as well as the capability to work independently
  • Good command of English, both oral and written with the ability to communicate effectively
  • Highly motivated and innovation-oriented
  • Experience with publishing research and/or project experience related to maritime/ logistics/ transport will be an advantage

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
