This PhD-project is part of the interdisciplinary, international research project ANIMALAW ( ). ANIMALAW is the first project of its kind to focus on handling of animal welfare offences in animal transport. Despite the 1) long tradition of this legal practice, 2) the high number of animals transported in and from Denmark each year, and 3) the growing scientific evidence within negative affective states (such as pain and suffering) of animals, this has not been studied before.In ANIMALAW, three core scientific disciplines are joined together in a mutually binding commitment to develop collaboration and integrating animal law, anthropology of human-animal relations and veterinary science. In a joint effort, involving international experts and research education, the partners of ANIMALAW examine whether Danish legal practice regarding offences in animal transport reflects contemporary ideals about animal welfare, veterinary expertise and transparency.The open PhD position covers a project aiming to map and analyse the veterinary evidence underlying recent legal cases in Danish animal transport legislation. Among the objectives of the project is evaluate to which degree the legal conclusions are consistent with the available veterinary evidence. Applicants to the PhD position must have a relevant master’s degree in veterinary science or comparable knowledge within veterinary pathology and veterinary forensic pathology. The applicant will have to read material from Danish courts in Danish and must therefore be able to read Danish or another Scandinavian language.Place of employment and place of work:
