Applicants are encouraged to self-identify on their electronic application.Reporting to and under the direction of the Construction Project Manager, this position assists the Project Managers and Contract Supervisor with the preparation and inspection of work on Parks Outdoor Recreation capital work Projects including but not limited to sport courts, playing fields, parking lot upgrades, bridges, docks, playgrounds, trails and walkway construction.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist with field inspection and monitoring of work done by contractors
• Review project design and construction plans and specifications
• Attend project pre-construction meetings
• Record pre-construction conditions
• Record work done in a daily diary and on record drawings
• Check grade and alignment of proposed works
• Take field measurements to determine quantities of work completed
• Assist in preparing monthly progress payments for contracted work
• May perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience:

• Currently pursuing post-secondary education through an accredited Civil Engineering Co-operative program, with a minimum of one year completed.
• Eligible for a co-op term during period advertised.
• Valid Nova Scotia Class 5 driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle to be used in accordance with HRM’s Mileage Policy.

Technical/Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:

• Ability to work with limited supervision
• Experience or knowledge in municipal infrastructure construction

Security Clearance Requirements: Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.Please Note: Testing may be conducted as a component of the selection process to assess technical and job specific knowledge.
