If you’re ready to be at the heart of our operations, we’d love to have you aboard!The Naval Architect / Marine Engineer Contractor will report to the Engineering Services Manager and provide technical support services as required, based on industry/RCN accepted practices and available technical documentation. This may include but not limited to:· Prepare documented work scopes, suitable for the solicitation of quotations from external resources such as Original Equipment Manufacturers, suppliers, testing facilities or specialist service providers;· Prepare technical quotations, proposals, and cost estimates for Customer approval; and· Developing and reviewing technical job instructions and engineering work packages.Providing technical input into problems associated with equipment or system malfunction, including failure analysis and solution development.Advantages
Hybrid position (Located in Victoria ) Hybrid, they will have to visit the ships alongside DND facilities occasionally and can work from home when physical presence is not required.
Schedule: Typical 8-4, Monday to Friday, but there is some flexibility.
Have the potential to convert into a permanent position (no guarantee).
Professional roleResponsibilities
You will be required to:Conduct detailed naval architecture tasks, including:o Requirements analysis;o Performance improvement investigations;o Material compatibility investigations;o Review of equipment/system design and maintenance documentation;o Failure analysis;o Risk and hazard assessments;o Support lifting appliance certification, design and testing;o Structural and Stability calculations;o Hull surveys, lightship surveys, and inclining tests; ando Assure compliance with hull related Classification Society, Naval Ship Code and Polar Code requirements.Minimum Requirements: Skills, Experience, Education, Technical/Specialized Knowledge, Certifications, Language· An Engineering degree or equivalent in Naval Architecture, Marine or Mechanical Engineering;· Minimum of ten years maritime experience in Ship Repair, Ship Building or Ship Operational Experience;· Eligible to be registered as a Professional Engineer in British Columbia, Nova Scotia, or Ontario, Canada; and· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Qualifications
· 5+ years experience in project management of ship repair and engineering change projects;· Experience with design and certification of shipboard lifting appliances including marine cranes;· Familiar with conducting weight and stability calculations and associated tools, and lightship surveys;· Previous experience working with a defense contract;· Working knowledge of Microsoft Office; and· Language: English (Essential), French (Desirable).Summary
