Job description: DescriptionThis role is within the nuclear division of a company specializing in automated machinery and equipment for the automotive and nuclear sectors. The team has several upcoming projects with various clients. While lead engineers are managing the projects, there is a need for support in design, particularly in part and component modeling and material selection.The position involves 100% design work, where the individual will be assigned to specific projects and tasked with completing design assignments. This includes creating detailed and assembly drawings for automation, robotics, and material handling equipment.All design work will be done using Solidworks, including the creation of pneumatic and schematic diagrams.Key Responsibilities:

• Conceptualize and develop detailed designs using 3D CAD software, including drawings, bills of materials, and engineering calculations. Designs will be informed by input from various stakeholders such as Engineering Management, Project Management, Customers, the Manufacturing Team, and other team members from Mechanical and Controls Design, Procurement, and Suppliers.
• Define machine operations and processes to create cycle time/process sequence charts and test parameters, demonstrating a thorough understanding of project requirements.
• Generate Bills of Material (BOMs) for both manufactured and commercial items.
• Collaborate with manufacturing and assembly teams to implement the designed equipment effectively.
• Work in a cross-functional team with Electrical and Controls Designers, Programmers, the Assembly Team, and Project Management to develop, design, and deliver custom-designed and built assembly automation equipment.
• Assist and delegate tasks to other members of the Mechanical Design team supporting the Senior Mechanical Designer.
• Provide technical support during the construction and assembly phases of the project.
• Participate in the development and implementation of design and drafting standards, cost reduction methods, and continuous improvements to integrate design technology that enhances safety, functionality, and reduces costs.

Skills & Qualifications

• Over 5 years of Mechanical Design experience in the automation industry
• Experience in designing assembly lines, conveyors, bearings, mechanisms, and pneumatics
• Proficiency in modeling and detailing assembly drawings
• Solidworks expertise
• Knowledge of GD&T and tolerancing
• Tooling design experience
• Familiarity with PDM (product data management) systems

Automotive

• Servomotor sizing
• Component sizing
• Pneumatic and schematic design
