Job description: Mechanical Construction ManagerJob DescriptionThe Mechanical Construction Manager is responsible for ensuring HSEQ goals, objectives, and targets are met through personal leadership and involvement. The role involves assuming responsibilities as Site Lead in the absence of the Construction Manager, leading discipline-specific teams, and assisting in the overall management of the GC Construction teams, including Construction Engineers and Supervisors. The Mechanical Construction Manager will ensure adherence to project HSE and quality standards, and effectively manage construction activities.Responsibilities

  • Lead the Project Safety culture, behaviors, and engagement activities.
  • Identify, evaluate, and resolve construction issues during the execution phase.
  • Assist the Site Safety Lead in maintaining an effective safety plan during all project phases.
  • Attend and contribute to weekly construction review meetings and monthly progress meetings.
  • Foster cooperation and teamwork between General Contractor, Sub-Contractors, and other site personnel.
  • Review GC Contractor’s construction procedures, specifications, method statements, and fabrication drawings.
  • Monitor the allocation of construction resources and recommend corrective actions when needed.
  • Oversee the delivery, handling, storage, maintenance, preservation, and installation of equipment and materials.
  • Monitor work performed by the GC Contractor for quality and compliance with the contract and project schedule.
  • Supervise construction inspection activities and coordinate corrective actions.
  • Verify compliance with safety regulations and quality standards.
  • Audit progress against the project schedule and propose actions to correct delays.
  • Assist in the review and sign-off of mechanical completion and commissioning certificates.
  • Evaluate GC Contractor’s claims for contract change orders and schedule extensions.
  • Validate physical progress reports for progress payments.
  • Ensure the preparation and review of as-built drawings and final handover documentation.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in the industrial construction sector, with preference for 20 years.
  • At least 10 years of recent experience as a Mechanical Construction Manager/Superintendent/Lead in an owner’s capacity.
  • Strong people management skills, capable of handling both technical and non-technical aspects of the project.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in construction management within the industrial sector, particularly in mechanical and piping disciplines.
  • Familiarity with food plant and food and beverage facility construction.
  • Ability to manage and coordinate with various contractors and subcontractors.

Work EnvironmentThe role is based on a construction site, with rotations that may include 10/4, 8/6, or 5/2 shifts. The site is within driving distance from Edmonton and Calgary.
