Job description: The Mechanical CAD Designer is part of the Product Development & Engineering team. This role involves collaborating with Industrial Designers, Mechanical Engineers, and Manufacturing partners to create new concepts, develop products, and improve existing designs, with a focus on CAD modeling using a Top-Down Design strategy and the creation of Master Models and components.
- Contribute to the creative development and refinement of new concepts, utilising PTC Creo Parametric CAD software for design work.
- Collaborate with the Consumer Design team, as well as the Mechanical and Electrical Engineering teams, to create CAD models from early-stage concepts and prototypes through to final Master Models and assemblies.
- Serve as the key liaison between the Consumer Design (CD) and Engineering teams, ensuring that all CD requirements are captured, while also addressing and resolving engineering and manufacturing challenges throughout product development.
- Create Master Aesthetic Surface data with a high level of precision, ensuring curvature continuity, based on 2D and 3D industrial design concepts.
- Develop and implement a Top-Down Design Strategy that aligns with product needs, adhering to company CAD standards to ensure program success in the MCAD environment.
- Apply knowledge of electro-mechanical product design to ensure designs are cost-effective, safe, of high quality, and manufacturable.
- Conduct assembly analysis and tolerance calculations using various analytical tools.
- Prepare technical drawings for manufacturing, applying Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles.
- Assist with or maintain CAD Excellence Checklists as assigned.
- Review and verify the accuracy, completeness, and conformance of Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) to company standards.
- Support CAD Data Management efforts by maintaining data integrity within the PTC Windchill PLM system, performing CAD data transfers, and understanding key data management tools, among other tasks.
- Continuously develop and enhance CAD skills, providing technical support, training, and assistance to other team members as needed.
- Propose recommendations for improving CAD usage, product development processes, and related procedures for continuous improvement.

- Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
- Familiarity with Tolerance Stack Analysis.
