Job description: Job DescriptionManager, Strategic & Urban Planning – Planning and Infrastructure EconomicsMelbournePlanning for our cities and regions and their infrastructure needs is complex, as is understanding how they will grow and which projects will enhance community wellbeing and prosperity now, and into the future.Our Planning & Infrastructure Economics team help plan for our places, cities and regions now and into the future by helping develop and prioritise projects and generate sustainable community benefits.Your Opportunity: Manager or Associate Director levelsThe opportunity within our Planning and Infrastructure Economics group is a new role to support our growth in service offerings related to land use planning and urban development.Our team are leaders in supporting our clients’ needs with advice in strategic planning for urban and regional environments, urban economics, the development of precinct and placemaking strategies and the short- and long-term planning and prioritisation of social, transport and energy infrastructure projects.Managers are considered mid-career professionals who understand the urban planning and development sectors, can lead and build teams and are known for their ability to deliver work.Associate Director are industry specialists who can support client growth, are passionate for building a thriving team culture and are known in the industry for their expertise and ability to deliver work opportunities.You will collaborate with our national team and work with our Melbourne Partners to unlock local opportunities in the Australian market by:

  • Supporting the development of policies, strategies, feasibility studies, investment decision frameworks and business cases for urban and regional planning initiatives, particularly in a public sector context.
  • Building the firm’s subject matter expertise in strategic urban and regional planning, urban economics, spatial analysis and/or place-based development.
  • Being client facing, solving client problems, delivering proposals, and managing the delivery of projects.
  • Supporting existing client relationships and building presence in the market at industry events.
  • Building their subject matter expertise in urban planning and placemaking.
  • Building a cohesive and delivery focused team, with growth and learning as a key focus for your team.

  • Have experiences in the early phases of major urban planning, regional planning, placemaking or precinct conceptualisation and the necessary governance, investment and policy decision frameworks.
  • Have the confidence with (or clearly demonstrate experiences supporting) the initial phases of place-based project and/or development opportunities with clients.
  • Show a passion for solving client problems, identifying opportunities for further success and mitigating risks for their projects.
  • Show a passion for facilitating better community outcomes through enhanced urban development and planning for great places, cities and regions.
  • Be an active a thought leader (or the desire to be) in a range of strategic, technical, and business issues impacting our clients and markets.

  • Delivery experiences in similar consulting, advisory or inhouse roles across urban or regional planning, precinct and placemaking or strategic social/health/hospital planning projects, locally or globally.
  • Previous experience in project environments, across all stages from concept to delivery.
  • The confidence to support client relationships and develop a presence at industry networking events.
  • An ability to understand and contribute to the generation of new work opportunities.
  • Strategic thinking skills and demonstrated experience in the economic, financial assessment, investment decisions and strategic planning of infrastructure projects.
  • Tertiary qualifications, such as Urban/Town Planning, Geography, Architecture, Environmental Studies, Economics, Engineering or similar.
