The role/Te mahi
We are seeking an experienced and strategic library professional with a passion for building outstanding scholarly collections and making impactful decisions in a dynamic academic library environment.As the Manager, Collection Strategy and Development, your focus will be on developing and refining the library’s collection strategy and ensuring it meets the diverse teaching, learning, and research needs of one of New Zealand’s leading universities.Not only will you oversee the acquisition, evaluation, and licensing of scholarly content in all formats, your leadership will ensure that our collections remain robust, responsive, and aligned with the University’s academic priorities.Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the Collection Strategy and Development team
  • Oversee the evaluation and selection of scholarly resources in all formats
  • Monitor collection budgets and expenditure
  • Manage licensing and contract negotiations for electronic resources
  • Provide data-driven insights to guide collection decision-making

Your skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheakoThe ideal candidate will bring a wealth of expertise and a passion for excellence in library services, team leadership, and innovation.Key skills and attributes include:

  • In-depth knowledge of scholarly content procurement, collection development, digital library technologies, and discovery interfaces.
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and foster positive relationships within teams in complex and dynamic environments.
  • Strong skills in scoping, planning, and managing projects, with a focus on delivering innovative outcomes.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and negotiation skills, particularly when engaging with scholarly content providers.
  • Understanding of cultural diversity, with working knowledge of Te Reo Māori and Tikanga Māori.
  • A commitment to excellence, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to adapt and innovate in a rapidly changing environment.
