Work LocationUNODC ROEA, NairobiExpected duration3 Feb – 31 July 2025Duties and ResponsibilitiesUnited Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is mandated to assist Member States in their struggle against, organized crime and terrorism. UNODC, as the guardian of crime prevention and criminal justice standards and norms, the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC) and its related Protocols, the UN Convention against Corruption (UNCAC), as well as the various international instruments of environment crime, long recognized as involving transnational organized crime. In this regard, environmental crimes are a threat to the environment and frequently involve other forms of serious criminality such as money laundering, corruption, human trafficking, tax and customs fraud, labour exploitation, and environmental and public health and safety laws. Organized criminal networks are moving illegally harvested wildlife as well as illegal timber, using a variety of smuggling techniques, often by means of existing infrastructures and well-developed routes used for the trafficking of drugs, people, weapons, counterfeit goods and other forms of contraband. Furthermore, it fosters corruption, robs communities of their resources, and impacts livelihoods and food security of local populations. To address this, UNODC’s Global Programme on Crimes that Affect the Environment (GPCAE) delivers a range of technical assistance activities within several thematic areas towards achieving the key project objective of strengthening capacity to prevent and combat environmental crimes on a regional, national and local basis. The GPCAE also raises awareness of environmental crime among different stakeholders at the global and regional levels, including civil society, aimed to contribute to the reduction of demand for wild fauna and flora. UNODC’s GPCAE is implementing ‘crime scene to court’ programming at a global scale and is in need of a consultant to support its data management process in order to enhance the collection, consolidation and presentation of quality data corresponding to the implementation of the European Union-funded activities under the International Consortium for Combating Wildlife Crime (ICCWC). The assignment will be carried out under the direct supervision of the Regional Coordinator of GPCAE. • Develop and implement a comprehensive framework for collecting, managing and storing project data in alignment with UN standards. • Provide monthly updates of data management process and propose potential recommendations where applicable. • Liaise with national institutions in Eastern Africa to obtain accurate, consistent and compliant data related to wildlife crime. • Provide monthly updates of data management process and propose potential recommendations where applicable. • Liaise with regional offices to harmonize data requirements and ensure alignment. • Provide monthly updates of data management process and propose potential recommendations where applicable. • Design and/or refine tools, including templates and trackers, to enhance project monitoring and streamline data management. • Provide monthly updates of data management process and propose potential recommendations where applicable. • Consolidate, verify and organize project data from multiple sources into a centralized and well-structured repository. • Provide monthly updates of data management process and propose potential recommendations where applicable. • Design dashboards, charts, and/or visual summaries to effectively communicate data insights in a use-friendly format. • Provide monthly updates of data management process and propose potential recommendations where applicable.Qualifications/special skillsAn advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in statistics, computer science, business administration, mathematics, public administration or related field is required. A first-level university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. • A minimum of two years of working experience in Data analytics and data visualization applications (MS PowerBI, Tableau or similar) required. • Knowledge in data analysis is desirable. • Experience working with the United Nations is desirable. • Previous experience working within the Eastern African region is desirable. • Previous experience working with institutions in the field of combating wildlife crime in Sub-Saharan Africa is desirable. • Excellent inter-personal, analytical and drafting skills required. • Ability to generate reports and presentations that include graphs, maps, tables and interactive dashboards, required.Languages

  • English and French are the two working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN language is an advantage. Knowledge of Kiswahili is desirable.
