Job description: We are looking for a permanent full-time legal counsel at our Auckland office.What you will be doing:You will provide high-quality and pragmatic legal support to the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research Ltd (NIWA) and its subsidiaries across a broad range of matters, from contracts and corporate governance to IP and procurement. You will also be crucial in helping mitigate legal risk for the organisation and managing compliance. As a critical member of NIWA’s busy legal team, you will have wide exposure to a diverse range of work across different business teams.What you will bring:To be successful in this role you will be admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor in New Zealand, hold a current practising certificate and have:

• Circa 4-5 years PQE or equivalent
• Sound analytical skills and judgement
• Understanding of commercial and contract law issues
• Experience in contractual drafting, review and negotiation
• Experience in an area of law relevant to NIWA’s operations (e.g., IP, marine, ICT, public law, regulation or property) would be an advantage
• Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
• A high level of professionalism and integrity
