You can experience a world of opportunity and the chance to shape a career as unique as you.The OpportunityWSP currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced, solution-oriented and pragmatic Legal Counsel to join our Australian team for a six-month parental leave cover contract.The role can be based in either our Perth or Brisbane office reporting to the Head of Legal, Mining and Energy.Your general responsibilities will include the provision of legal services relating to commercial contracts, insurance and insurance-related matters, the development of template precedents, advising on issues of corporate governance, as well as providing general legal support to our Australian business as a trusted and valued advisor.Your role will include the following activities:

• Draft and negotiate engineering services contracts, standard form contracts/subcontracts and other commercial agreements to support large infrastructure projects.
• Provide legal expertise relevant to commercial decision-making and ensure that all operations of the organisation comply with relevant legislation.
• Develop the legal intellectual capital of the business and develop processes and procedures for the efficient provision of legal services and to mitigate risks.
• Act as the main point of contact for a portfolio of internal/external clients, under the guidance of the Head of Legal, Mining and Energy.
• Deliver a high standard of work, ensuring deadlines are met and clients are kept informed.
• Contribute to training programs for non-legal staff.

About youThe successful candidate we are looking for will have:

• Typically 5 to 6 years plus PQE preferably in the engineering, and/or construction law areas.
• Holder of a Bachelor of Laws degree (recognised in Australia).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to communicate to people in a range of positions.
• Excellent negotiating, drafting and project management skills.
• Ability to resolve internal escalations.
• Ability to provide commercially focused legal support.
• Innovative and self-motivated, with excellent attention to detail.
• Willingness to research, explore and recommend commercially viable options and solutions.
• Able to work as part of a team, open to new ideas, willing to compromise and share information.
